I start my orientation on Tuesday after the holiday for OD p&d - finished driving school about 3 weeks ago. It has taken this amount of time to go through their hiring process however i interviewed the terminal manager while i was still in school - I consider myself lucky and very excited to get in and start making some good money in LTL. It must be a good time to get into trucking (LTL) with great companies like OD really hunting for drivers?? Love reading all these positive post about this line of work. I'm in IL Chicago suburbs- hoping in a few years to move over to linehaul, or sooner!

Congratulations. Remember, safety before anything. If you feel you can't do something or you're unsure, stay put, call someone. Do everything you can to avoid an accident. Never back UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this.

I will be put on 4 weeks of their training program since I'm straight out if school which I'm completely okay with. Being a p&d driver I'm guessing backing up will be a normal part of my day. Look forward in the training and getting used to my rig & avoid any accidents. I heard OD is fare but they do not tolerate stupidityTexas_hwy_287 Thanks this.

CONGRATULATIONS driver! I run through one of the Chicago suburb terminals at least once a week. Which one will you be working out of?

lol
That terminal is 5 miles away from me. They are still hiring for linehaul? -
Yep I'm through there fairly often. It's either Montgomery, Chicago West or Chicago South
-
Yes they are, or at least they were a week or so ago. Orientation tomorrow, ready to get rolling! Who are you with now?

Do you plan on staying P&D or going to line haul

I've been driving for close to 25 years and the last 8 at OD as a linehaul driver. I love it here and have nothing but positive things to say about it. My son is a P&D driver and he's been with OD for 5 years. He started on the dock as an 18 year old kid and then went to the yard as a spotter. He went through the driving class and is now loving it as a driver. You're going to have some good days and some bad ones. The key is to take it slow and easy and be safe. After you can get that first full year under your belt it gets better. Good luck to you driver!Dave_in_AZ and John E. Thank this.
