Anyone else listening to Bubbo Bo on 700WLW tonight?
He's got a guy on interview that is saying that retreads are far more superior then virgin tires. He also says that 95% of the road gators are from virgin tires!!!
Can you believe this guy?

I have heard the same story too....
The #1 reason why tires fail is improper inflation...Virgin tires or recaps.....
How many of you actually check the tire pressure and not just thump to check your tires???? -
I don't check my pressure every day. But I do check it 2-3 times a week.
This guy is funny!!! I'm still listening & he sounds like a salesman!
My personal experience tells me that caps are worthless. I have only lost one virgin tire & it was a steer. I have had caos shred numerous times! -
The last company I was with started running caps coast to coast. I was skeptical to say the least, but I don't know of any failures. They used their own casings. Every truck and trailer was checked out, greased, and the tire pressure checked before it left going anywhere, no exceptions. I guess that is why many of their trucks have close to 1.5 million miles without any major engine work.

bangdad was claiming if you see pieces of steel in a gator that proves it is from a virgin tire. when my recaps blew the gators had steel sticking out because obviously the casing comes apart on a blow out and the cap is glued to it.
but i guess if you want to get technical a actual cap hardly ever fails because it is not holding any air. however it does seem to heat up the casing that is full of air -
Yes he is abolutely right!. That is because 95% of tires out there are virgin, 5% recaps! The road gators, like the other post mentioned, are mostly caused from the tire going flat first, then it tears itself apart. Recaps or not, they all kinda fall apart the same way at 60 mph. -
Absolutely, the last 2 tires I had go were virgins. Caps get a bad name because people are too cheap to cap the casings before they get too old. My tire shop WILL NOT cap a casing over 4 years old. Some other shops around (bargain basement) will cap anything. We also always use our own casings. I know where they came from and how they were treated there whole life. We have ZERO cap failures on 11 trailers and 6 tractors. Even with capped x-one super singles. (most of our trailers are spreads) Let's do some math: new tire ~$300, cap between $110-$150. Casing can be capped as many times as possible in 4 years (I can only get 2). All this talk about fuel mileage and buying aero trucks and most guys throw away more cash in tires than they'd ever save with a goofy looking truck.

I use caps and generally have pretty good luck with them, but when the retread industry has people like that making statements like that which only insult people's intelligence, it does them more harm than good. Just looking at that statment from a logical view, if retreads are superior to virgin tires, why don't they make the virgin tires using the same process? Its a completely absurd statement.

I tried Michelins recaps,,,they call them "rebuilds",,,had them on my 5 axle,,,I haul heavy,,but am not a fast driver,,,usually in the granny lane cruising along,,,I check tire pressure every 2 weeks,,,and usually only put 500 or so miles on a week,, got sick of watching the caps coming off and pounding the life out of my trailer,,,Michelin did back them up with a big warranty,,they replaced a fair number of them,,no questions asked,,,,I finally made a deal with the dealer,,,he bought the caps off me and I went with new Michelins,,,haven;t had a problem blowing one of those yet!!!
Won't waste my time with caps again!!!! -
My old boss ran caps on 14 belly dumps what a joke he couldnt wait till all those caps wore out or exploded what a mess!
