Quickserve lists 'N14 mechanical' as the service model name of the NTC-444 now

When I bought my truck ~8 years ago they called it an NH/NT 855

That is just the nature of quickserve.

It is not a mechanical N14, that’s just the family that it got put in when the data was entered into quickserve.

N14 Mechanicals maxed at 430hp in stock form, the higher HP versions do have different pistons that have anodized bowls.

I didn't explain that very well. When I first bought my truck ~8 years ago quickserve listed the service model of my engine as an NH/NT 855 (I printed out the dataplate from the website for reference). At some point they switched that, in quickserve, to N14 Mechanical

Do you have any insight into the compression ratios that were used in the N14?

I'm rebuilding my engine right now and the pistons are unavailable. Only CPL 1280 and 1256 used them. Original compression ratio was 15/1

Yeah I was having a brain fart. We had a t-600 with a big cam. Was thinking it was a early 90s but yeah it was a 85 or 86

The N14 mechanical was a good engine as long as it did not have the
STC fuel system. The STC system was used in the higher horsepower engines.

No, cummins got really tight lipped on the compression ratios on all the N14s.

From the Dim dark recess of My Old Mind.. !
I think the main Difference between the 88NT & N14 mechanical.
Was the N14 had Air to Air aftercooling & they did away with the Lowflow Cooling But still had the STC injector system..

    But happy to be corrected..

I know that big cam 4 was low-flow and the mechanical N 14 is a regular flow. Between them I'm not sure of all the changes.

The mechanical n14 did have air-to-air and I believe they were all STC engines.
