How does some one who is looking to buy their first truck run the vin number? Is there a free site somewhere that can give all the needed details and that is geared specifically for 18 wheelers?

Don't know if it is free, probably not, but I wouldn't buy a truck without doing a RigDig report.

Yeah no, they want $34 for one report. Not at this stage of my search. If am more serious about it then yeah maybe. Thank you for pointing this out though

theres no other way. rig dig and dealer ecm reports are all paid services. pick out your best few choices. then run the reports

plus if your serious about buying a "18 wheeler" then spend a few hundred on the research. run reports, dyno, blow by tests, oil samples, etc

If you are serious about it you run a rig dig or car fax. If the $34 is a deterrent you should look at the cost of insurance and other things...

well, I was baiscally trying to say, for now, yes im not willing to pay to run that VIN. When, I get more serious about it, then yeah, of course I will definately do that as well as oil samples, etc. I'm currently just in the phase of poking around and seeing what's what and trying to figure out if it's even a doable thing for me. That's all, so yes, at the moment, $34 is too much but I get ready to buy, that's a very small price to pay.

Pay the $34 for the Rig Dig. Then take the VIN and a $100 bill to a dealer for whatever brand truck it is and have them run it in their system. Then all the warranty claims will come up. Then when you find a truck you’re serious about go look in person, take it to an independent shop and pay to have the info pulled from the ECM. Don’t waste your money on an oil sample because chances are it has fresh engine oil anyway. If it has 4-500k on it just do a fluid change in the trans and rears once you get it home.
