Is shortening a semi frame a big deal?

The only real problem with shortening a frame is re-drilling all the holes for the suspension mounts. You want to make sure they're perfectly lined up, each side with the other. Otherwise you're going to have some really bad tire wear and possibly drive line problems.
We shortened one of our logging trucks into a single axle and our mechanic did a good job...but he said he'd never do another one.

Cutting frames or stretching to add sleeper, is similar to rape and murder.
Those things are better left to a professional with much experiences and
allowed lots of leeway in timing and methods used.

Here is an example if a 266".
2014 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA SLEEPER FL3508 - Truck Market

I'll post up pics of the actual truck in question after the deal either goes through or fails.
I dunno, maybe 286 is a typo and should be 266? I'll recheck with the dealer.

The huge sleeper trucks are 286-306 wb.

Cool deal. Mine’s not a huge sleeper truck but she’s a 312” wheelbase.

I'd find a factory 2-axle to buy even if it's farther away and more money and leave that idea alone unless you already know people well qualified to do this. Or just run the truck as-is if the deal is too good to pass up. Used 3-axle sleepers are easy to find where as 2-axle sleepers are more of a niche item. CA hay haulers spec new ones like that since they are limited to 5 axles, so often nice ones can be found over there.

I think I got a good deal, waiting on finance to give a final answer.

    2017 Cascadia 125 with a 72" midroof sleeper.
    79,000 miles, 455hp DD15 with a DT12 auto trans
    2.62 Rears and a 286 inch wheelbase.

Truck is pretty much mint, we agreed on $83,000

It will be a 2 car hauler bed, leaving it as a tractor would raise my policy by $9000+. Customized into a car carrier bed would raise my policy by only $2,000.

Looks like a nice owner-op spec truck. That's pretty cool not having the shifter in the way.
