I have a 96 12.7 in a 2001 century bought the truck about 2 months ago so don't know much about the history other than what I was told. Truck was running great but the other day loss power and rough idle and smelled raw fuel. First thing i thought was injectors couldn't get the scanner to connect. Pulled overhead off found #6 exhaust valve nut loose fixed that put everything back together misfire was gone at a idle but holding throttle at 1600 or so misfires and white smoke. Took the injectors out had them tested they said 3 were bad replaced 3 no difference. Found with the intake temperature sensor plugged up it misfires and throws white smoke out of the stack at high rpm. Unplug it no misfiring or smoking check engine light comes on when it is unplug and fan stays on replaced the sensor no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions or what the problem might be. It's driving me crazy. Thanks in advance

Fuel lines might be cracked and sucking air. Mine does it sometimes, every since I had it overhauled. Worst at 1550-1600. I can sometimes make it happen, holding it anywhere between 1400-1650. Worse when fuel filters are bad. I think it’s the line between fuel filter and fuel pump. Could be my fuel mixing ( shutoff ) valve on top of Drivers tank. They’re known to real havoc. Mine is 20 yrs old. My mechanic had the same problem on his, replaced the valve, and fixed the problem. I haven’t figured it out yet. It seldom does it. I think the old line was disturbed during the inframe. There’s an easy way to pressurize tanks, using a shop rag, and air blowgun with one fuel cap off, other on, vent tubes blocked. Any leaking lines should bleed fuel, from the pressure. Don’t need much, 10 lbs, or so.

Thanks will check that out. Although don't believe that is the problem but might be. The raw fuel was coming out of the stack. Wandering if the trs or srs sensors are bad. It is overloading the cylinders with fuel. My mechanic also put another ecm on it just for a test no change. But you unplug the iat sensor and it runs fine. Except the fan stays on.

There’s a module on my 01, at the bottom of the fuse box. I forget exactly what it’s called. One of its features is running the fan, when bad fan runs too much. I forget the details, but it’s purpose is to take place of 4 engine sensors. I’m wondering if yours being a 01, engine a 96. Maybe the 4 sensors were set up accordingly, I’ll try to get a pic later. I’ve read up on it. It’s been explained to me, on this forum somewhere. Can’t miss the small box in fuse panel It says pdmi, or something like that. I’d have to look it up again. Wish I had more info.

Usually if someone figures out the problem they don’t share the information for some reason. If you are asking for help, you should also give help. It’s not that hard to list your solution, I’ve found this to be the case most of the time
