That's my coping mechanism. I am working towards being able to stop driving in another 9yrs 4mths on my 60th birthday. All the nonsense I have to put up with now just gets me closer to that date.

Set a goal for yourself and work towards it. Focus on the future rather than the frustrations of the present.

Wow similar story except I love flatbedding. Maybe try flatbedding at a place that gets you home a lot? I don't know man.

I sold my beloved Kawasaki 750SXi pro to get out of the Sheriffs department and still be able to pay my rent.

    It just had to happen.

Can you still smell that crap hole jail sometimes?

Yes I can. The smell of mash in the toilet. The burning wire of the stingers. The very bad smell of some man love. And the lifer smearing his krap on him and the walls attempting to get moved to the crazy house for easy time. I was at a level 4 maximum security state prison.

Think you need to get out of trucking completely.Start thinking now about what other line of work you could do.Another year of otr will be hard but it s not that long.

Just to add to the bs today, my load of OJ got rejected because one of their junk pallets broke. Nothing wrong with the product. I was literally told they didn't want to deal with it. It also appears they unloaded and reloaded the trailer, so they probably broke the pallet. It was packed much tighter when I bumped the dock.

You're probably right. I've always loved to drive, but my days of living in a truck are numbered. I'm more suited to technical jobs, I have tons of skills with technology, mechanics, etc. I've just never been patient enough to get the certifications to be able to market the skills. Law enforcement was the only thing that gripped me strong enough in college to stay interested and finish. I'm not dumb enough to walk into that line of work for ludicrously low pay involving the risk associated now days. Mu days of "selfless service" are done.

Be helpful if maybe one of those types actually held down a job like this is or even lived like a vagrant for a good chunk of their lives. Yeah, they might've gotten into their profession to help people. But I've gone through many chains of therapists and actual psychiatrists in my life that have yet to really empathize. Some do their best. But at the end of the day, it's next to near impossible to get that perfect set of steps that will lead us to true happiness/fulfillment.

Like some of the posters said. Get a local job that isn't too pushy. But also make sure you do your research before you dive into it. My current gig is regional with 3-4 nights out. But I usually run a select couple of states and flat out refuse any attempt to get sent true "over the road". If it gets me fired or forced to quit, then I guess I'm outta here and back to the employment funny listings.

I did local milk hauling for several years before having to jump regional last year. Home everyday was cool. But also waiting at places stretching my nights into the day killed that vibe as well. Still giving line haul a thought, but too lazy/unmotivated to relocate due too many fears. I'll eventually move on after some compromise has been met. But I've also been a slow acting person all my life.

    Rocks Thanks this.

Line haul is probably the only local job that could get me to leave OTR now. Even so it's going to be rough taking that pay cut and the losing the luxury of no commuting/no gas bills.

Maybe fixing trucks would be better than driving them in your case.

What's wrong with you? Not a thing. Maybe running running OTR for you is no longer a fit. It ain't for everybody. It's a total lifestyle change, and I have a hard time believing that every OTR driver is meant for OTR. I miss my family too, all the time, but I don't like to run local. That's me though. What works for me, won't work for others. You're burned out man. You need to go away from the road for a while, maybe permanently. You may have to make a change job wise; you may have all the amenities in your truck, but for some people, living in a truck is torture. You make good money, but money can't buy a family and a "normal life." If you choose to stay on the road, you have to get out of your truck and get away from trucking sometimes, even if you have to simply rent a motel room, order some takeout, watch some TV, just relax, decompress. Drink a few beers, that always helps me lol
