This doesn't just target truckers, it targets all small business owners. My Uncle is a painter and now when he gets big projects he will have to hire employees and then fire them when work slows down again, instead of just hiring contractors or other small businesses to help him out. This is nothing but a ploy to get rid of all small businesses that rely on contract work.

By caparison if an electrician sub contracted some of their work under a general contractor that builds homes, & I called that electrician for something unrelated to that general contractor, that electrician wouldn't bill me through the general contractor. Again, I'm not saying it's right or wrong.singlescrewshaker, PoleCrusher and Long FLD Thank this.

What is the problem here? All parties signed the contract and are aware of this. As a contractor I am able to determine everything about my work schedule and my pay. As an employee this ability is taken away from me. This Pro Act is also about eliminating "right to work" laws that some states have.exhausted379, D.Tibbitt, TheLoadOut and 5 others Thank this.

I know it's very popular in here for independents to #### on people that lease on somewhere but independence isn't the end all be all or necessarily a workable option for everyone.

You know if everybody donated $1 they could pay off like 3,000 mortgages per month and eventually crash the usurious Federal Reserve system?
Not saying anybody should do that or anything...just throwing it out there.singlescrewshaker, PoleCrusher and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
So could someone like Landstar, Mercer, or any of the major lease (independent contractor companies) break themselves off into several little outfits and one day you do a load from Landstar, and they pay you, your next load comes from "Transtar", a division of Landstar, and Transtar pays you, then another load from "Superstar" and Superstar pays you, meanwhile your fuel deductions go through "FuelStar", a company that monitors and bills fueling. Not so much a pyramid and not all under one roof either. Just a thought. Not sure how the DOT number situation would work out.

They’d have to operate as large brokerages and hire people with their own authority.D.Tibbitt, singlescrewshaker, PoleCrusher and 1 other person Thank this.

A quick search revealed no new info on the Senate vote on this bill for quite awhile now. Nothing since April I could see.

I was not trying to do that to you. If it came off that way, I apologize. But you could have joined more in the conversation than just jump to your conclusions.BoostedTeg, singlescrewshaker and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
No way this will pass and if it does it will be tied up the courts until hell freezes over .
