Does 20 valves make it a ten cylinder? They are valves right?

I'm thinking they are valve springs. Because that looks like there exhaust port and headers.

I'm also guessing the valve springs are sitting onto of the valves. And the valves are what control the air inflow into the cylinder.

What is it, and how close to right am I?

Yup its an inline 6. 99% of on road engines in North America are. Exceptions being the old V-block Detroits, V8 Macks and the V8 Cats. Can't remember if Cummins made a V8 on road engine or not.

I have to lay down. But. Out side of a show truck, up to how many cylinders can a big rig have.? Is six or eight the max?

They put 12V71 Detroits in trucks from factory. V12. I have heard of a couple one-off units with V16 Detroits though.

They made at least a 555 and the 903.

I drove a truck that had the 903 V8 Cummins. It made the two stroke Detroits sound like a moped.

Had a guy in the early 80's with the v12 Detroit who kept up with the first Cat425 in the barn.

His motto was old HP could keep up with the New...His dad used oversize injectors in his Detroit...everybody said there were from a tugboat engine, LOL

So if the industry standard is 6 or 8. What sets them apart besides the def?
