My truck just recently gets really jerky when reverse, especially uphill reverse. Going foward is perfect. Volvo tech in Fontana has to pull down transmission because there was no code. They now said we need new clutch because it is warned out, out of warranty at 300,000 miles on clutch. Our truck has 425,000 miles. I really think it is something else because our other 3 trucks are up to 7000,000 with no issues. Any advices is much appreciated.

I had the same issue with my 2015 vnl. Had to upshift in reverse to get the jerking stop. Then later it started making loud noises on 7, 9 and 11th forward gears. Took it to the dealership and got a new transmission under warranty.

Need a trans the input shaft causes that if you can shift to reverse 2 gear all that will go away nothing to do with clutch just the guys at dealership have no idea very common problem need a short trans and will take care of problem should be under full warranty.

check to see if there is a misadjustment on the service brake sensor sometime it will make it jerk but not only reverse also forward gears as well .

Have two 2015 Volvos that are jerking in reverse but are fine in all other gears we replaced the ccv on the side of the transmission and still same issue trucks pass all clutch test so don’t think that’s the issue
And also don’t wanna replace transmission and have it do the same thing
I’ve read on other forums that the output shaft having play can cause this problem but Volvo says they are built to have a little play in the yoke we’ve been trying to figure out the problem for awhile now. Any suggestions on what to check next.
Have already checked clutch ,ccv, all wiring , replaced shifter in one ,
    Thanks in advance

not out put shaft its actually the input shaft that has the play best way to check if have premium shifter is use reverese 2 instead of reverse 1 if it doesnt do it than need to put shortie trans or input shaft kit but $$$ almost same and input shaft its very hard to come by to find the parts
