Dynamex had employee drivers and then reclassified them as IC's to save money, but those drivers were still driving company trucks and working at company assignments on company-written schedules.

    PoleCrusher Thanks this.

@TallJoe It could come down to getting one check for leasing your equipment to a carrier and the driver is a company employee paid on w2. I guess it would come down to the relationship you have with the carrier but at worst you could end up with forced dispatch, having the same hometime allowance as the other company drivers, etc.

slow.rider, PoleCrusher and TallJoe Thank this.

Many of you may have seen this Thursday morning from OOIDA

At 5 am eastern this morning, when many truckers were either starting their day or still asleep in their cabs, the U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee passed a highly partisan highway bill, H.R. 3684, the INVEST in America Act. After several pro-trucker amendments were rejected on largely party line votes, OOIDA remains opposed to the legislation.

Our opposition was cemented when Democratic members of Committee unanimously voted against an amendment offered by Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) that would have prevented an unnecessary increase in motor carriers' minimum liability insurance from $750,000 to $2 million. Several other pro-trucker amendments were rejected during the highly-partisan markup, including measures to prevent an AEB mandate, excessive screening requirements for obstructive sleep apnea, the initial step toward a side underride guard mandate, restrictions on the use of personal conveyance, and the expanded use of ELD data for "research."

While this bill will likely pass the House in a few weeks, we're relieved it has zero chance of advancing in the U.S. Senate. Many of the most problematic provisions in the bill are simply too controversial to gather sufficient support in the Senate.

Thank you again for all your calls, messages, and outreach supporting efforts to improve the legislation. Because of your hard work, many Committee Members spoke up on behalf of independent truckers and adamantly opposed the harmful provisions in the bill. We'll work with lawmakers from both parties to stop these policies from ever becoming law.

This is a very accurate statement. I have ran for Congress before and I am involved in politics.

They don't care about us. They care about the people funding their campaigns and helping them stay in office. They will do what is best for them. An incumbent has a 98% reelection rate and most people don't know how bad their Representative really is.

I lost to a guy who had never voted in his life and accepted money from a pac heavily funded by Bezos and Bloomberg. The swamp helped him out and now he is their puppet. We have similar credentials but the difference is I stand on principle of liberty and small government and the establishment hates candidates who won't bend to their will. It all comes down to marketing, special favors, and money.
