It helps to enjoy the sights when traveling around. Take time to smell the roses. I had a 2 day layover in Hawthorne CA. Spacex let me park in their yard. Called Uber and wound up on the sunset strip. Sooo worth it

It's hard to say what to do because everyone is so different. I tend to think that no matter what industry you work in, there will be a burnout point eventually, even if you love your job. I like OTR trucking, and feel burned out periodically. It's life though. Most people will be required to work because.....we can't afford not to lol. I've had to simplify pleasures over the years, and learn to find solace and happiness in the little things. If I can't get home, then I'll treat myself to beer and food. Now that works for me because those are 2 things I enjoy. Then when I finally get home, I'll rest and make every moment count with my family and kids, quality time. I don't even think about work unless I'm working. I am not sure really what to advise because majority of people will be working jobs that don't give them the highest satisfaction, and I think folks need to learn to be ok with that. It ain't going to be perfect all across the board in life

As for the original post, yeah I experienced burnout my last three years at ABF. The 2013 contract pretty well destroyed that company for me, and meant I'd be on the extra board for another 2-3 years. The job became a grind. I just wanted to be home more.

In MY case? A new job did the trick. I love it here. I was thinking of leaving the industry, and I'm glad I didn't now.

But that was totally unexpected, a hail Mary throw that was surprisingly caught. Might work for you, might not.

You say you're already home every day, so I don't know what more a company could do to make you happy. More money? Strippers on Fridays?

No but I do get scolded for power sliding my truck into the yard. Not enough ponies to do a burn out :(

Put me on the late night shift where all I'm dealing with is stoners at the drive-thru as opposed to Karens at the counter and you've got yourself a deal. Other than that, the only time I realized I might've become "burnt out" is after I got fired for some anger related issue. Or sleep finally caught up with me and I doze off at the dairy after the eight load for the night and the pump keeps running. All I got to say is that getting a different job after those two incidents was much easier than the firing after a rollover.

As far as getting a different route is concerned, I feel myself being less burnt out nowadays thanks to sticking to the same scenery and getting 2-3 days off each week. Only time I feel burnt out again is if it's been like this past week where I've been running locals again off of recaps thanks to some lazy bum who requested a vacation and no one else could be found to cover the local unloads. I think the only reason I'm still sticking here is due to the "no-slip seating involved more than anything else. But even that's becoming less of a reason to stay on after seven years and high time to do the dreaded "new job and relocate thing" and ghost this outfit.

I've been home daily for a handful of years now. But I change routes often. Hard for me to do the same daily drive over and over. The longest I stay on a route is 6mos to a year. I'd be burnt out with anything longer. Just me.

I appreciate all the responses. I decided to take two weeks off in July for a mini vacation, followed by a month in September. Think it'll get my mind right is the hope.

If that doesn't do the trick than I'll most likely end up leaving the industry for a while.
