With the newest equipment out nowadays, you should have zero trouble getting out of units. I swing the drivers door open 100 percent on every thing except behind the cab. Even that isn't too tight.
Make sure to wear good footwear and be extra careful when the truck is wet or icy. It gets really slick especially if you load often in a railyard or auction with lots of hydraulic oil spilled on the ground. It gets tracked all over the truck. I've seen more than one car hauler fall. It is safer than it used to be but its still extremely dangerous.

Dig into any OEM loading manual and you'll find some wording stating 'the driver must be able to enter and exit the vehicle through the driver's door without contacting any of the transport truck's superstructure' or something to that effect.

For real safety precautions if the truck you're on has any type of posts/tubes intended for a hand hold (usually on the headramp with guidewires or just a tube on quickload trailers) make sure they haven't rusted out at the base. They could give you a false sense of security. I know of one heavyset driver who took a half gainer off the headramp without the benefit of a pool to dive into. You get lots of attention but no awards.

No, Hogan. It will be a starting point to get into the industry. Training is for six weeks in Waco.

Nobody is a lot taller than someone who stands 6' 5" tall. Get out of town.

Very fair point. He's so tall, I'll bet he can probably see the curvature of the earth flat footed. Not many can say that.

I talked to a Flint driver that knew you a few months ago. He told me he was an owner op at NuCarCarriers years ago so I asked if he knew you and he did. Have you retired yet or are you still hauling?

Some get over it some don’t. There was a guy loading next to me a few years ago. He had a trainee on his truck. The trainee was crawling around on his hands and knees trying to strap the car on the head rack. I asked him what was wrong and the trainee said he was afraid of heights!! Lol! Maybe he was trying to face his fear head on. A few days later he had quit I guess it was more than he could handle.

I'm hard at it when GM manages to scrounge up enough chips to make a few shippable cars. No plans on retiring yet. Thanks for asking.

NuCar Carriers, lol, you don't forget that adventure. It took some serious head scratching at times. 11 units on 65' equipment, you had to earn that easy money.
