Dentention/Layover question

Even if it's true, there's 50,000 other brokers out there, and they're all brokering the same load. Guy is too chicken #### to even ask the customer.

Get paid. That's a bridge I'd happily burn. #### em.

 

His loss not yours. Take the money And use a better broker. Too easy.

 

You have to get your detention, TONU etc etc all squared away and in writing somewhere like an email or preferably directly on the rate con before you dispatch the truck to avoid these types of headaches. There are plenty of other brokers out there to work with. Take whatever you can get from XPO and move on. Also, odds are you'll still be moving their freight through another broker anyway.

 

He's bluffing, it's a negotiation tactic. If you genuinely didn't play a part in causing the layover/detention, it wouldn't make sense to DNU you, especially in a tight market it like this. He's hoping you say, "Fine, forget about it". If you come back and say, "I hope we can continue to work together, but we genuinely incurred additional cost through no fault of our own. We will need to bill for the detention/layover but will try and help you out on the rate on future loads" I think you end up in a decent spot and you get paid.

 

You're probably not going to collect that detention. I'll just go ahead and say it put XPO on your Do Not Use list. It's no real loss. We have shortages of truck parts, drivers, fresh chicken and produce at the super market.. you can't find good mechanics or drivers. It's hard to find good companies. Everything it seems is in short supply these days...

Except, and being new you may not know this, there isn't and never has been a shortage of freight brokers out here. You will never miss XPO. There's dozens of brokers for every available load out here. Lots of them need to go out of business and they'll never be missed. That's a fact.

They are the absolute worst scoundrels out here and they will screw you over every way possible. If you don't believe me check their reviews on DAT. Don't even bother giving them a second chance because they will do it again. It's normal operating procedure for them to find ways to beat small carriers out of detention, lumper money, etc.... ...and I document everything doing it by the book always so they have no excuses other than they suck.
