The one and only question that may be the most important for the wannabe is, "whats the pay?".
I've spoken to several owner operators who have told me that I could expect to net, on average, $3,500.00 per week. I have also been told that before the current recession O/O could net as much as $7,500.00 per week. But it has been said that during these times of current economic trouble it is more likely that my net would be, on average, $2,500.00 per week. Are these numbers even close to being true?

Are you thinking about becoming a O/O or a company driver ? Huge difference between the two.

I knew this would stir you guys up! Actually I've been talking to the owner operators them selves. They are usually older men who can no longer drive. And of course I've been told by many that now is not the time to enter this industry. And to answer Rookietrucker's question, I would position myself as an owner operator. I will at first establish my Master Brokers Certificate and then broker out my own loads.
Read my bio in the welcome wagon section of this forum and you will better understand my interest in entering this industry.
Thanks guys and you killed my with that Obama crack SilveradoBlue, I'm still laughing. And buy the way I asked another question under this same heading that gives a little more information on the Master Broker Certificate issue.
    Thanks!

the way this business is going might I suggest that you think instead of becoming a commercial fisherman and go for your master baiters license you will probably make more money

No,I was drinking coffee at the Flying J the other morning where I got in a conversation with an o/o he told me hasn't had health insurance in 10 years and also told me if something like buying a new engine ever came up he would just throw the towel in altogether and find something else to do so you figure.....
There's no demand for drivers out there man, only a demand for people willing to drive for 0.20 cents a mile or o/o's for pennies a mile.
