I’m a yard dog hauling around trailers. I was told you can relocate empty storage trailers on roadways ie plant to warehouse about a mile away. Now they want to use these storage trailers as shuttle trailers with parts and things. Even the place who rents the trailers to the company have been putting “storage” on the periodic inspection stickers. The company is telling us these are dot legal trailers and we can haul them on the roads. I’m having trouble finding the exact dot definition of storage trailer and how it can be moved. Any advice?

Doesn't matter what label is on the trailer, as long as it meets DOT requirements, you can run it interstate.

If you have been using trailers for shuttles between your plant and a warehouse on public roads, they are not being used as storage trailers anyway. Those trailers should be able to pass any DOT inspection.

Me a Dog to , spent some time at a fortune 500 outfit making moves ,there shuttle trailers were rotten front to back.
Annual DOTs expired by years not months , i hired big mama to spot and she red tagged all of them , she took a lot of greif over that from the front office , a lot of the biguys have junk local trailers , these bean counters don't have a clue.

Wait till you get involved in an accident and the local cops notice you don’t have a current license plate and no insurance and no turn signals and bald tires and picks up the radio and calls the DOT
it won’t matter who’s fault the accident was, you’re gonna get a handful of tickets.
does your yard dog spotter tractor have a current DOT annual inspection and current license plate and insurance and all the proper required markings on the side ?
I’ve been involved in accidents with my personally owned normal suv and a utility trailer and the responding cops wanted registration for the trailer , which was current but the plate and sticker were obscured by the cargoSpeed_Drums Thanks this. -
Yes it does have a annual insp with no plates or registration and runs city streets.
Any moron can pencil in a Annual , they used to sell the supplies at truck stops stickers included , kinda like the fake Covid Vaccine sticker.
The world is crossthreaded.
