My friend has a bunch of 20-30 year drivers who are retiring (been with him for 20-30 years). He often talks about how difficult it is to replace a quality veteran driver. One of the reasons why they offer benefits is to attract other veteran drivers. Even so, that is nearly an impossible task today. It only takes 1 bonehead to sink a small company.

The sad thing is, he had the balls in the first place to even walk in the door and demand such a thing. WTF has our world come to?

    I see it every day.

“I won’t go here or there, I’m not doing inside deliveries, I’m not working longer than 8 hours...”

Are guys that hard up for drivers that they put up with that crap? I know good drivers are hard to come by, but to what ends?

The last week I was at my corporate job, the guy I worked for was calling people who'd applied for a driver position. He called three people one day and each of them left him sitting at his desk with the "why am I bothering?" look on his face.

One couldn't pass a drug test, but applied for a truck driving job anyway- even though the listing said "must be able to pass drug screen"

One said they wouldn't take a penny less than some rate that was leaps and bounds beyond what any truck driving gig in the area pays.

The last one was the most amusing "kicker". Much like the listing said you had to be able to pass a drug screen, it also mentioned that the driver was responsible for loading the truck as well as assisting with unloads at job sites. (Flatbed gig), and doing warehouse/yard duties when not out making deliveries was a must.

Anyway, this person said something along the same lines of insanity that @TripleSix mentioned.

"I'm a truck driver, that's it. I don't load or unload anything, that includes doing securement. Oh, and I don't do warehouse work either"

One of those "WHY THE HELL DID YOU APPLY FOR THE JOB THEN" moments.
