Heads up, Midland is coming out with a newer radio called the MXT-500. It will have more programming flexibility, 50 Watts of RF Power, and the NOAA weather channels.. It should be available by the end of Summer 2021...

A 15 watt midland and a no ground plane NMO antenna on the mirror will easily outdistance any CB setup

That's what it's going to take: some of the bigger shops and truck stops to devote a little shelf space to gmrs

    I do it every day
I have a 5/8 over 5/8 NGP 5Db gain antenna and a 15 watt Midland and the only place where my export CB works better is in the mountains where the UHF frequencies tend to get blocked by the hills.
The Midland MXT400 is 40watts which i'm sure will go a little further for $250
Or you could buy something like this 50 watt Baofeng
    BTECH Baofeng GMRS-50X1 Repeater-Capable Radio GMRS 50W
    • Regular price $199.99

Russ do you have any idea how the Midland will compare price-wise to the backordered Wouxon (sp?)

    Do you ge
    Who are you talking to?

Do you get traffic reports and other road info from other drivers with that GMRS? How about info at loading docks? Or what is it used for in the truck?

The Wouxon KG1000G is in a class by itself. It has 999 custom memories, General Coverage VHF/UHF Receiver, FM Wide and Narrow Band capable, and has TWO independent receivers.

Midland is playing "catch up" :)

Just like when CB began to be used by truckers it too was EMPTY and quiet back then until enough drivers bought radios and GMRS is no different.
I still use channel 19 on the road just like everybody else and it's not going to get replaced any time soon by GMRS but when i only want to talk to one or two drivers heading the same direction, i use GMRS if they have it and every driver in my company has them.
You hear NOTHING until the people you WANT to hear key the mike instead of having to turn the squelch all they way up just to block all the good buddies and racket.
