Things happen. I did something similar, trying to park out of everyone’s way, while waiting to Load. Took out 2 tires, 2 rims. Cost me $600, 20+ yrs ago. Like you, I could have stayed put, but noooooooo, I had to be a nice Guy. Those calls are hard to make. Always the end of the world. All part of learning the Job. Won’t be the last mistake you make. Only human. I bent my rim a few yrs back, ran over a huge boulder while turning, in Memphis, in a hurry to beat traffic. Luckily it was steel wheel. Beat it straight with a sledge, and got the tire sealed back up. I have 8 aluminums to put on my trailer. Think I’ll stick with steel. Might happen again. I’m only human. Lol.

 

If I was the boss, I would be less likely to fire a driver who is honest and owns up to his mistakes than a guy who tries to cover it up. Just my opinion.

That said, you seem to have an issue with close quarters maneuvering. Take your time and be careful out there.

 

What horrible advice, nobody will notice 2 new tires and wheels right? Then you have to explain your cover up.

 

What do you now? You just keep on trucking and try to do better. We have all hit and tore up things. Anyone that says otherwise is a liar.

 

It is not covering it up. It is owning up to your mistakes , thinking for yourself. And taking care of it like a responsible person. Why the need to report every single thing to the boss . the cdl is the most valuable possesion we have as drivers and for a couple little dings theres no reason to report that and put ur license on the line . just take care of it urself like a real honest person and learn from it and move on

 

I agree, because they are going to take the cost of the repairs out of his check anyway

 

Get your credit card out, call a local truck tire place, see if they’ll give you a discount. If they’re not super singles, you’re looking at like $1400, give or take a couple hundred. Get it fixed, pay it off and move on.
