On this note, I believe in Ohio they have to be able to maintain 50 mph across the entire length of the Ohio pike to qualify for the certification, with triples that is.

Didn't Swift get threatened about their 60 mph trucks (long after the max speed went up from 55 mph) being dangerous by holding up traffic before they up'd in 65 mpn?

The story I heard to that effect was in Arizona. Rumor has it the state of AZ issued an ultimatum to Swift for their slow trucks. "Either speed them up or do business elsewhere", I think was how it went.

I think that Knight got the same ultimatum after Swift turned up to go from 62 mph to faster!

ALL trucks being limited to 68mph, weeeee.
No more Super Truckers or Billy Bad Ace swooping down some hill to overtake everything in his/her way, oh the misery of it all.:pottytrain2:
Gosh, no more whining about how I'm in your way because my truck will only go 68 same as yours, hmmm, yet that's okay since I willn't have a c. b. anyways like now.
Lot of tail riding will ensue with the ONLY way to pass another being the load weight, wow. This'll makes driving far more interesting, doncha know.
Lots of ruined transmissions going down hills because of the SUPER overdrive (neutral) being engaged, unless one is in an "auto"matic, then the rules change somewhat....maybe.
Bobtailin' will be even LESS fun.:sad2:

One would still be able to pass Roadway among a select number of others, yet the majority won't be able to pass themselves.:cyclops:

Hills (ascending) will certainly be more fun and dangerous because NO ONE will be able to pass ANYONE unless they are first empty, yet with the numbers increasing then because of equality of speed, uhhhh...hmmmm.

Yes sir and ma'am, it'll definetely be an interesting time then and one I hold no relish towards becoming a reality.:violent3:

One can only hope that this "new" idea is
    quashed before implementation.:smt072

If you do the math between new drives(27/32" tread depth) and legally worn drives(4/32" tread depth) at 60 mph is about a 2 mph difference! That means if ALL trucks set exactly to 68 mph, the range of speed diff will be 2-3 mph on the straight away!!

It could be that Arizona adopted the same 65 mph left lane minimum speed limit as New Mexico and that would mean any Swift trucks that had to take the left lane to allow vehicles to merge or to avoid an emergency vehicle on the side of the road would be violating the speed limit.

It won't save life's. It will cause more traffic congestion and more wrecks than ever before. We done this split speed limit already. And they changed it because of the harm it was doing then. Wake up Feds.

Wow. 10 year old thread talking about the same issues as are being talked about today. Imagine that.

I thought we already had speed limiters. A white sign with black numbers on the side of the road, and the operators conscious.
