thanks for letting us know. It figures they would close it. Pilot hates sit-down restaurants. They want you to get in and get out quick to make room for as many steering wheel holders as possible! But the Marlin's in Rapid City at the Windmill Truck Stop and also the one in MItchell (which is an independently-owned place) are still open, I believe.

Notice that the ones being rebranded are the smaller locations. Of the ones I have seen, a larger unit of the PFj has been near by.

Here is another question. In the western states, Maverick has a number of locations. Many with truck fuel lanes. They have a very distinct look to the stores. In some of the southeastern states is a chain called Murphys, i have noticed that they are building lots of new stores. Most of these also have truck fuel. The thing that stands out is they look a lot like the Maverick stores, almost an exact copy. Are they connected some way?

They said it was because of Covid. That’s all I know of it.

The only thing I know about Maverik is that they are owned by Pilot/Flying J. In fact, Maverik was started
by Flying J founder Jay Call's brother. I haven't had a lot of experience with Murphy. Aren't they usually
    found outside Walmarts?

Maverick ownership is sort of strange. The people who currently own it are the former owners of Flying J, they are shareholders of Pilot/Flying J. Some way, corporate PFJ is invested in Maverick. They did buy it from family several years ago.

As to Murphys, they did have or run some places that are on walmart property. Don’t know if Wally is in on it or not. Just noticed the new stand alone stores are almost an exact copy of Maverick stores. Maverick has the lowest prices fuel around. They will take any fleet card but Comdata.

Before pilot took over the operation of the Flying J truckstop chain, Flying J did not take Comdata either. They got into it with Comdata in 1996 and Comdata cut the J off. Only the Broadway Flying Js were able to take Comdata. Until PFJ happened.

Not sure about thier diesel, but thier gasoline is garbage... I've had more problems with water in gasoline from Maverick than any other place. I quit buying gasoline from Maverick about 8 years ago after my pickup died on me because of water in the fuel. That wasnt the first time I had issues with Maverick gasoline but it was, amd will remain, the last time. When I bought my wifes new car I forbid her from buying gas at Maverick... She got mad, but after I explained why she understood. Now shes more picky about gasoline than me... Lol

Hmm, thanks for the tip. I've heard bad things about Maverik gas, so I'll be aware of I have to stop at
a Murphy. What particular locations did you notice, if I may ask?
