Bought one of those purple cushion things just now. raise my butt up a little so my legs don't dig into the seat. Hopefully that will suffice for now until I can get all this maintenance crap out of the way and I can buy a seat.

 

Just too bad the tool is like $2k. I've found a place that rents them and hopefully a weekend rental will be cheaper.

 

I think it's a load of BS some of these shops are doing to minimize any liability for shoddy work done by poorly trained parts changers. They feel it's a better idea than to actually hire quality people they'd have to pay well or, perish the thought, train their employees beyond mediocrity. (which also leads to higher pay)

Suppose you've been fortunate and not had too many experiences with that kind of attitude in any of the shops you've worked in?

What would have really sucked is if there was a job that he could do, but a couple hours into that job, he saw something else that needed attention that he could not do. Suddenly they would contact you and tell you that you have to tow your truck to another shop, and they don’t allow 3rd party repairs on property.

Not trying to tell you how to run your business, hand, but you want to avoid using TA shops for your trucks. Their little corporate policies can end up costing you serious money.

A few years back, a driver took his truck to the shop for a front wheel seal. The tech deemed that a new front spindle was needed. They stopped all work and told the driver that he needs to take the truck to another shop, company policy, no 3rd party repairs, yadda yadda.

 

I usually don't have alot done on the road. However, where i live now, I don't have a shop and the idea of doing it in the dirt doesn't appeal to me. I also really don't have the time right now. I live in a log home and I have to completely refinish it so I can get it on the market. That process is extremely time consuming and I'm only home so much.

 

I agree, however in this circumstance, I really don't have much choice. It is 4th of July weekend and nobody's open and I had some time. So I thought wrong that I was going to get some work done.

 

IMO if you're worried about liability from shoddy work, hire people that know what they're doing.

Mechanics don't know everything but we know where to get the answers and info we need.
