That's horrible. Are there usually a lot of truck accidents out in AZ?

If a driver was alert and paying attention to his driving, accidents like this would be rare. Unfortunately we see more and more accidents where a driver - car and truck - is running up on stopped or slowed traffic and unable to stop. Many times not even slowing down. And guys wonder why Congress is trying to mandate AEB, Automatic Emergency Braking, in all new trucks. Even though we know that the AEB is likely to cause more problems than it solves.

Such a shame. So, did this go on years ago and we just never heard of it? In most of my miles, I never remember rear enders like this in trucks. Seems drug testing, HOS, training and better trucks should have prevented all this by now. Shows what a load it all is, and as long as human beings are in control, you just can't have zero risk.

Looking at that truck I'm betting it all already had those gimmicks, probably why the driver was comfortable not paying any attention to their driving.

That is a very rough stretch of road on the eastbound side from the Salome highway exit to about the 84 mile marker.
Possible the car was on the shoulder changing a flat tire because of the rough road.
We usually see all the accidents between the 112 and the 120 here in Buckeye, with all the cars and trucks getting on the freeway and people doing 100 miles an hour trying to dodge them.

The new rapidly developing trend for both cars and trucks is just pulling out into traffic off of the shoulder. I've seen more incidents of this in the last two months than the previous 16 years.
