The original 430/470 can’t be beat for durability and economy. Detroit tried to compete in the HP race using the 12.7. I think they created more problems than it was worth. The short lived 12.7 550, and the eventual lowering of HP ratings for 12.7s after finally coming out with the 14L. Proves the point. IMO. They’ll never admit it, and others will defend the 12.7 500hp. I’ve had 2 of them. I really like them, but they don’t have the Torque of the bigger displacements. I’m not sold on pushing them very far. It can only lead to an early overhaul.

They will take 2450 rpm all day long. 2700 start snapping inj. rocker arms. But after that. That engine has no problem turning 3,000rpm.

Well this will be more of a opinion than fact. The drilled rods help with wrist pin, and some with piston heat. The squirters help some with wrist pin and alot with piston cooling. I have fleet experience with them and now run my own. My opinion, I wouldnt go over 500hp without both. Not saying you can't. But I do not think I would.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
