to be honest, I don't recall much of it so am not sure what you are referring to. They have the standard required DOT test which is pretty much the same for all hires in the industry.
As for company specific stuff - I have read about sleep apnea testing, but they did not survey me about it so I presume that unlike Averitt, it is still voluntary at Schneider.
The other thing they did which I had not experienced before was a mini- stress test. I'm a big guy and apparently met their standards so its hard to tell how strict they are in test results (it is a series of 6 or 7 small exercises done in an office to recreate on the job situations - lifting a box of weights, crouching down under a platform and standing up, crawling up onto a platform, joggin in place etc - they check your pulse after each).
That's all I recall - hope it helps.bb.Everett Thanks this. -
I just went through orientation a few weeks ago...
Pretty much exactly as bbmyls2go said: You go in on a Sunday afternoon and they check your resting blood pressure and pulse...mine was higher than they liked, so I got some information and had to chat with the company occupational health folks. The you do a 1 minute step test where you step up and down onto a box and then they measure your pulse again. You do some carries with various weights (nothing real heavy) and you climb up and under a simulated trailer and sit for a minute or so to see if your balance is ok and you don't pass out from lack of circulation. They check your pulse after each activity to see that you don't exceed...something like 80% of your target heart rate.
It's nothing to get too concerned about...the heartburn I got from the catered lunch was much worse...felt like I swallowed a lit flamethrower and chased it down with a pissed off porcupine covered in battery acid. Bring Tums!!Last edited: Sep 10, 2009

i find that a glass of milk works for me. i get heartburn from too much pepsi. some foods sometimes. acidreflux. sometimes i even feel like i'm having some sort of stroke. feels like a knife tearing up my chest. and face muscles. having a bowl of cereal in the morning and caffeine free sodas helps out a lot. been awhile now since any symptons.

I have a problem with my knee. I tried to do the test and my knee gave out. My husband passed. So he is driving for them. I will wait till his insurance kicks in and then I will get my knee taken care of. Schneider said I can reapply in 6 months.

I'm lucky....during my 6 year hiatus from Schneider I spent 4 years working for a roofing material company....tossing bundles of roofing tends to keep one in shape....

I think if you just relax and pay close attention to what you need to do you'll be Ok....
I'm heading to Carlisle sometime early in October....I got my passport, and now I'm just waiting on my new glasses so I can see to pass the DOT.... -
U need a passport to work here?
-
Hubby doesn't have a passport and is a driver with Schneider. They do want you to have your hazmat endorsement though.

A passport was not manditory the last time I checked, but it will do you a lot of good in the future to have it (same with TWIC card). Many drivers can't go into Canada since they don't have a passport so in turn it seems that there are certain drivers racking up real decent miles even in the bad economy.

Gypsy Willow I had my back fused and was hired in May Fired in Nov. because I went home instead of doing the increasing "staging " the loads for drivers. I have about 8 years of driving and have my CDL for 11 years. I took a drug screen, they cut hair out from my under arm because I shave my head at times and the length when i let it grow is still not long enough. I've done their carrying 60plus lbs. in a basket for i forgot how many feet, then check your heart rate. They also have the back of a trailor mounted to a wall so you can climb in that, you will also do a step like type of arobics and check your heart rate. They do quite a bit of testing. I hope this helps you.
Everett Thanks this.
