Splatter is harmonic distortion caused by CB shops that insist on removing the modulation limiter in an attempt to show a big watt reading on the CB shop's "feel good" meter. Those big watt numbers are overmodulation which is basically splatter on the airwaves. Splatter can also be caused by an improperly tuned transmitter. Running a class C amp can also contribute to splatter.moreaujeremy and DocHolliday Thank this. -
Color me clueless (I'm so embarrased) I've been running a five year old Palomar 250 with good results, so I'm told by others on the air. What would make this amp an A, AB, or C?

Want to thank you guys that actually KNOW this stuff!
I too am running a DX-979 peaked-n-tuned, 18'of mini-8, and a 102" s/s whip on my big-rig. This setup "skips like a stone",& SWR is 1.1 to 1.2
I just bought my 1st amp (X-Force mosfet 200) but don't have it yet.
QUESTION 1...
If I need typically 18' (no amp) of coax from the radio to the antenna, & then I add a 3' jumper between an amp or inline watt/swr meter & radio, this gives me 21' total. Should I use 15' between the amp & antenna, and the 3' jumper from amp to radio for a total of 18'? Running the inline meter & amp both with 3' jumpers,,,do I shorten the antenna coax so the overall length is 18' ?
QUESTION 2...
Where would I install the SWR/Watt meter in the system?
Between the radio & amp? OR between the amp & antenna?
Could I rely on the radios swr/alert for between the radio & amp, and the in-line meter for between the amp & antenna?
Thanks!
