Delivering to a few Papa John's locations in NC and Northern S.C. out of a D.C. in Goldsboro, NC, thru a Driver Service (probably Pro Drivers) sometime latter 2000 decade.

1st Trip, rode (I Drove very minimally between 00:01 and 06:00) and my Logbook reflected ON DUTY for 26 hours with NO SLEEP and I did a 2.5 hour trip (GSO,NC) in me car to and from Starting Point before getting ANY Sleep. The only "stench" that kept me awake between 00:01 and 06:00+ was the nasty feet and socks of their Driver. It was cool outside yet vent window open.

2nd Time a few days later, similar to the 1st:
At D.C., I was told "You Need To Count Freight To Insure Load Is Complete" and I said "I Do Not Count Freight, I Just Honor S.L.C./S.T.C.". "You'll Count The Freight Today or You Can Leave". (I shuda split) So I Counted The Pathetically Loaded Freight, Heavy On Light Items.
Second Trip MUCH WORSE as I was a 3rd leg and did ZERO DRIVING, just riding in passenger seat, yet of course helping UNLOAD the supposedly company required weight of a 450 pound Dolly which I dropped a few times descending Ramp from Trailer, Dolly FIRST. I wasn't weak, just TIRED and unconcerned about product over MY SAFETY.
That trip was pushing 30 hours ON DUTY NOT DRIVING. Furthest delivery in NC was Boone.

It was a month or longer to the LAST TIME.

Started out better than the earlier 2, yet quickly became another grueling level in Hell.
Seems I blocked most of it out of me memory channels, yet it was another 26+ hours ON DUTY.

Got back, slid by the Driver Service (in Morrisville) and clearly stated "never again at papa john's d.c."

Thanks For Reading as well any Comments!
    CHEERS!!

    Davenport & Sons, Sanford, NC.

    Same Driver Service.

Best Run was to Beckley, WV., D-n-H turn.
Their Trucks THEN were 10 speed Cornbinders, 10 wheel Day Cabs and Sleepers.
Ride made no difference between Trucks.
Loads were NEVER READY when stated so one had ample time to: Nap, Goof Off, Go Out To Eat, Pre-Trip Combo (except Trlr Tail Lights which sometimes were problematic), other = hang out inside near Dispatch Window or smokers table outside.
Evening Departs to Early Morning Returns.
Loads were "claimed to be ready by 17:30", but usually 1-2 hours later.
When I arrived ONSITE, I was "on the clock".
Company Paid For Tolls so get Company Toll Card, regardless of wait time, B4 Depart.
Tolls Reimbursed to Drivers that pay thru Service Paycheck = No.

I didn't like driving between 00:01 and 06:00, yet some runs were done, just 1 or 2 times a week.
Beckley West Virginia Turns usually ran behind at a minimum of 2 hours excluding Traffic or Weather Problems.

I did several of the same Runs for that Company.
Including My Mileage Both ways and Trip Mileage, it was from 640 to 690 miles.

Anyone Here at TR Did Those Runs?

I did another trip twice to Wytheville, VA., at Gatorade.
That was fun because the Trailer I pulled was EMPTY and Clean (very unusual) and The Loaded Passed My Inspection back to Base.
Second Trip, few days after, was a supposedly Clean and M-T Trailer from Sanford to Wytheville Gatorade and upon arrival, given drop slot, and I opened un-sealed Trailer to discover Bulkheads and Trash scattered about. I flagged down Yard Switcher and was told to "take it back".
Trailer was Closed Up when I picked Up and I was told By Driver Service as well Davenport onsite Supervisor It was "Ready To Go".
    Gatorade refused it, naturally.
    Service agreed with Gatorade.
I was fully compensated for the Turn.

It was "very unusual" to not need Fuel or Light replacement b4 depart Sanford.

When the 20 of 2 different People say the same thing about ANY TRAILER whether local or O.T.R., I saw ZERO NEED to "look for myself" unless it was the ONLY TRLR I pulled!
    - - - -
(I found out recently, in 2020 that Gatorade OVERLOADED their Trailers because Gatorade had a problem retaining PEOPLE that had any reasonable knowledge how to Load Trailers.
That's for another Post of another Local Company.)

Any One Here Driven or Drive For Davenport & Sons??

    CHEERS!!

    BEST DEDICATED, KERNERSVILLE, NC
Best Dedicated LLC USDOT 1247640 - Kernersville, North Carolina Trucking Company

There's also Best Cartage, same location.

Unless One has been there over 20 Years, it's a "Driver Drives Everything Company" including Assigned Equipment to Company Drivers on Home Time.
    Yep, "Classy Company".
Shop Mechanic, one day, told me "Go Make Best Some Money And We'll Spend It All Today In The Shop"!

They also have a Dedicated Account at Kay Chemical doing Turns to P.T.I. in Winston-Salem, Rt. 52 south to Main St., Left to side road, Left to first Left entrance.
That run was FUN at Win-Sal becuz of potential switcher work.
I preferred that location to Greensboro and sometimes Dispatched to begin there, switching and occasional turns to Greensboro or Best Yard if Truck needed something (like OIL or a NEW TIRE) becuz other "drivers just get in and go" without checking anything, including Fuel.

Second to Last Run was Gatorade, Wytheville.
Biggest PROBLEM on the Freightliner Day Cab 10 speed 10 Wheel was the 5th Wheel not being maintained like the Shop actually GREASING THE SLIDES. 5Th wheel itself was well greased as was the release handle down to the Hand grab. Gloves remain cheap.
After 5 times on Scale trying to get LEGAL, it went in and slide action corrected then released at local T.A. Shop (at X 41, I-77, Peppers Ferry Rd.) to go back to Gatorade to get LEGAL (reasonably) BALANCED LOAD back to Best Yard.
I was in a line of 6 Trucks at Gatorade (yeah it was a short RELOAD line) and still took a couple hours to exit.
A little over 44K and passed thru NC Scale House on I-77.

Last Run was good except for entering Crowded Yard and being worn out from morning departure of 06:00 to Raleigh drop yard on Rt. 70 in Garner (D-n-H) then to I-95 south to Berry Plastics, Benson, NC. Drop & Hook, no "appt" time.
Trip would have been shorter had I not become confused on Directions and ran rt 50 W. (passing street I needed to turn Left and 2nd time same approach, turn successful) to 27 W. to 421 N. to 401 N. to Rt. 70 Garner (big circle), then 70 to 95 back to Benson and to Berry Plastics.
Best didn't care about "Extra Mileage", just Completing Trips regardless of Time needed or Out Of.

Home run was easier, except for hitting a dropped empty Flatbed Trailer in Best Yard and Gouging a nice slice on SIGHT SIDE in early '21. Company seemed not too concerned about incident after paperwork completed and I was still allowed to drive for them, but I took the "Event" as a clue to stop Trucking.

Best had a LOT of short Hauls and preferred HEAVY LOADS like Johnson Controls and their MANY Locations in NC and SC!
I liked those runs, but alas, no more.

    CHEERS!!

The company I own is the worst. the boss is demanding, the payments keep coming, fuel keeps going higher, and tires are expensive..

Everyone knows that a person who takes care of chickens is a chicken tender.

CRST and Welfare Express were the two worst companies I drove for. I found there two be a complete lack of humanity in both companies.

    PAM Transport

Ran for McNeil out of North Little Rock; when PAM bought them out, I lost my nice shiny T2 and got stuck with a piece of #### Cannon Express i9600 that didn’t even have jakes and should have been retired years before. Fired our office staff and had to deal with know it all college interns.

Had my fill of the Pam McNeil Cannon Express circus after about two weeks of being circlejerked on my pay and hometime; from what I hear, PAM has slid farther down into the septic tank in the years since.
