No matter how many times you say it. You are still wrong. Lines 3 and 4 cannot be used after 14 hours, until you have a 10 hour break. That is the rule, unless you are split logging. Anyone who says you can log line 4 past your 14 hour is misinformed. If you log line 4 past your 14, you will be in violation. As far as working past your 14 or before, I worked for TMC and you have to work when off duty to make any money. You don't want to be tarping on your 14 hour, It will eat that up quick. I don't personally flatbed anymore, Flatbedding sucks!unless you like it.......and then....Yea! have fun in the snow and rain, i'll be driving.

You CAN log on line 4 after 14 hours. You just can't drive until after a 10. We ran it through the log check computer program and it's completely legal until you start driving before a 10.
-
NO; I am not. I know what I am talking about. I said you can do line 4 after 14 hours. You can not do line 3 after 14 hours. Try finding out before you pass on more incorrect info.
-
Yeah, no problem. I got what you was saying right from the beginning. That is one thing that all drivers need to know is what they can or can't do out here. Good job on understanding HOS!

Regulatory changes effective 2005:
Unless you are a short haul driver:
1)Can not drive over 11 hours after last 10 hours off duty
2)Can not drive after being on duty 14 hours after last 10 hours off duty
3)Can not drive more than 70 hours in an 8 day work week
or
Can not drive more than 60 hours in a 7 day work week.
You get a "restart" of the above times with a 34 hour rest period.
THEN: you need at least 10 consecutive hours either sleeper berth, or off duty or a combination therof between your 11 hour or 14 hour periods.
There is also a sleeper berth provision where you can take at least 8 hours sleeper, and 2 hours somewhere else.
There are these exceptions (b-o)

That is because you was driving. That is line 3 not 4.

You are going to be tarping on your 14 regardless of where you log it. The 14 hours start from the time your start your log until the time is up. You cannot stop it for anything. Anytime you go up to line 1 or line 2, you are still eating up your 14 hrs. The only thing that lines 1 and 2 will stop is your 11 hr drive time and your 70 hr clock. The 14 is still ticking regardless.
And the only way to be in violation past your 14 hrs is to be caught DRIVING. You can log line 4 (On-duty [WORKING] NOT DRIVING) past your 14 for as long as you need to, then take a 10 hour break, then start it all over again.
Again, I'm not saying this is the best way to run your logs because it does eat up your 70. I'm just saying it can be done LEGALLY.notarps4me Thanks this. -
Logging line 1 or 2 Won't stop the 14 (as you stated) but will stop the 70 (also stated) However, although not always legal, it can free up a lot of time on your 70. Examples: 2 hours tarping, log .5 hrs on line 4 and 1.5 on 1 or 2 - you just gained 1.5 hrs on your 70, same for fuel, meal stops, etc. Also worth noting - an anal log department or FM should take notice of this and want to know what you were doing for that 1.5 hrs, but I thinks that is un-likely.
