Air compressor rebuild

Toss that expensive Wabco compressor in the trash. They are junk. Get a bendix 550/750 tru flow twin cylinder. Parts are avalible every place. You will have to do some plumbing modifications. You will need a drive gear. They are pressed on.

I even think I have a vin number for a 2000 N14 in a FLD someplace that had a factory Bendix compressor if you need it. Ditch that slow under performing compressor.

 

N14 celect/celect plus does not require compressor timing. Bc/Sc single cylinder compressors require to be timed.

N14, BC/SC with twin cylinder compressor does not require timing either.


However I have no knowledge on N14, N88 mechanical N14 engine.

 

The tuflo isn’t real expensive. I think mine was $600 or less at Freightliner Dealer. It’s a 550, plenty for most Trucks. 750s are more $$ and build more volume. I think mines actually a Midland brand as was the original. First one was still good at 1.8/1.9 mil, just figured I better change it. New one pushes just as much or more oil. Bendix website claims its normal. Uggghhh! Oh well it works.

 

What he said. Got the safety pressure relief valve on new one? Keep it from blowing another head gasket, or cracking head/ bolt again. Never know if the line freezes up in winter, or govenor fails. You’ll hear it pop off/ purge and know there’s a problem. Keep from damaging new one. Probably last 1 mil miles. Won’t need another.

 

I don’t know, it’s a standard part. Available at any dealer. Should have a plug in the head, choose one, take it out. Get a pop off valve with matching threads. Get bushings or adapter if needed. Shouldn’t need it. Should thread right in, little pipe dope or Teflon on the threads. Little round thing, about 2”x1” right into top of head.
