Ads on Trailers?

    Hello everyone,
    I am not a trucker, but I was wondering why there aren't more ads on trailers? I started a safety razor company a little while ago and I've been working hard to promote it as best I can with what little marketing budget I have. I drive a lot and see so many blank trailers out on the highway and it occurred to me that there might be some opportunity there with owner operators. So many blank rear doors!

    I wonder what the thoughts are on this? Like, if I offered $400/month to put some classy vinyl design on the back....would that appeal to anyone? I'm a small company so I don't care what you transport or, frankly, how you drive lol. Just really curious about the potential. Thanks!

    (As a side note-- thanks for all the deliveries over the past year. I live in a city and you all saved my life!)

    Yeah ... if you pay me. One year contract. Paid up front. You can put it on my trailer.

    But, to be honest it's not that effective. That's why you don't see a lot of it.

    There was this one out for awhile for this women's make-up on somebody's trailer about 10 years ago.

    I thought to myself "In hell would I drive around with a trailer like that."

    I don't know; seems like it'd be effective. You have to look at a truck-- It's like a highway billboard that could also kill you.

    And if there's traffic, it's even better!

    Yeah-- but talk about effective advertising....10 years later, still in the mind!
    Those tankers with the "Coffee" ads on the back always stuck with me. It's kinda clever.

    I think potential accidents are a major deterrent. No one wants their product associated with that. I tried for years to get a Local Salsa contract. One day, I saw their Truck in a major wreck, big Trailer with Salsa advertising on it. They should have given Me the Contract. Not good advertising. Maybe buy an old Trailer, paint it up, pay a Farmer to set it in his field near the Interstate. Interweb is where it’s at. YouTube, all the others. Massive exposure. One Truck rear doors, few per day.

    Depends where you're at. If you're driving i95 from DC to Hartford, you'll get billions of views.

    As far as why my trailer is blank, I don't need nor even want to advertise my contact info to anyone, and the shipper's perception of me is more important than anybody else's, with the receiver's perception not far behind. Showing up covered with ads for something not only entirely unrelated but possibly antithetical to my cargo (i.e. potential contaminant) could possibly end up costing me a lot more than $400. And because my cargo varies a lot, therefore what constitutes a contaminant also varies a lot. Do I want to advertise makeup while hauling fresh produce? Or advertise farm fresh produce while hauling makeup? I'll take a hard pass.

    Just my $0.02.

    If it were something advocating nuclear power, requiring people to stand for the national anthem, pro armed forces, or pro Christian I probably wouldn't mind.

    Owner Ops may be more likely to do this but I highly doubt many would unless its specifically for the money. Most O/O are particular about their rigs I would think. Its a "proud" thing. I mean, they've worked hard to own a truck & business just to have it all painted & decorated up with someone else's advertising. Most O/O's with any pride in their truck want it to be something to be proud of... and look nice, and reflect their personality.

    As for company owned trucks, I just cant see any company I ever worked for that would trade their own advertising (their business) for your advertising.

    I think the other down side to this is, the cost of advertising on trailers. I mean... for $2,500 (back doors) - $10,000 (wrap both sides) per month, some O/O's might be willing to put your advertisement (depending on size) on their trailers.
    I mean, if I was an owner op, I might be convinced to do it if the price was right.... but it'd have to be right. Otherwise, MY advertising is going on MY pride & joy. Just my 2 cents.
    On the note of cost... is your idea to advertise on one trailer or 10,000 trailers? You got to multiply the above prices X every how many trailers you want to advertise on.
    So, now we are back to why you dont see it much. Cost. If that kind of money aint worth it to you.... it certainly aint worth it to me either.
