    Driver (or people in general ) have proven over and over that they do not have the judgement to be completely on there own. In a perfect world yes, but this is no longer a perfect world.

    You're assuming that every person has a body that operates the same as everyone else, it doesn't we're not identical robots. I have a coworker that can get off work, make his 40 minute drive home, jump in the shower, crawl into bed, sleep for 8 hours, drive 40 minutes back and be back at work after 10 hours off, even if he got off at Noon and has to be back at 10 pm for an overnight drive, bright eyed, bushy tailed and ready to work 20 hours. That's the way his body operates, me, when I get home, or take my 10, my body needs a serious 3 hours to decompress, relax and adjust, it's just the way I operate, and god forbid I want to eat something, unless it's the lightest of snacks, I need a solid 3 hours after I eat before I can go to bed due to health reasons. My wife can fall asleep in a 40 lane bowling alley, with all 40 lanes in operation, and lights as bright as the sun, me, I need almost complete silence, or something to counteract other noise.

    I agree with you to a point! We sign on for a job knowing the expectations and yes we need to do our part and follow through to the best of our ability. Equipment/load are replaceable. You the driver nor the families on the road are. Vast majority of the time 10 hours is plenty, however there are times and we’ve all had them where at the end of our 10 we still feel a little sluggish. Multiple situations arise throughout the day while we travel. As we’re all aware the more tired we become the more our reaction time decreases. Regardless of what a dispatcher says when the dust settles we’re ultimately the one’s responsible for ourselves, the equipment, load and lives of those around us. God forbid we find ourselves in a situation where a loss of life has taken place. If we do, do you honestly believe saying, “Well dispatch told me my 10 hours were up so I had to go” will work in your favor? Not in the slightest. Responsibility is 100% ours and we must do our due diligence and listen to our body. If 10 hours isn’t enough on a regular basis then unfortunately it may be time to seek a Dr’s opinion or possibly a different job. Just my opinion!!!
