Averitt Physical Question..

    If you are fairly young and starting out Averitt is a very good company to work for. They do promote from with in the company. I think the boy scout term is over stated. Averitt is mostly known for being a LTL company, and most of the LTL companies I know do wear uniforms. I f you don't want to wear a uniform don't go to work for Averitt. That is their policy and they won't change it.

    I had to stay out a couple weekends a month for good money. Getting home ever weekend is basically you are doing your reset every week when other drivers do every 70 near a pick up or drop off.

    So really you are going to do way more resets than other companies. This has nothing to do with me despising the company it just is.

    I'm not in it to make the most money possible. I just need enough to help with bills, get a good year of experience, and health insurance. They have terminals and service locations very near my home. That's important to me. Being able to come home is also important. I also like the way the training sounds. I already have my CDL from a year ago but little experience (a little over a month). They are willing to work with me on that. I'm also a bigger guy. I gained weight while I was doing other jobs this past year. I need to make sure they have a physical I can pass. Though many don't like them, I also prefer their automatic fleet. I don't mind the uniforms or anything like that. So given my limited options, I still like what I hear.

    I started with Averitt as a rookie a year ago and have been pleased with them overall. You do have your good weeks and bad weeks but the good outweighs the bad for me.

    EVERY trucking company, and I do mean EVERY trucking company has a new orientation class every week. So it’s not fair to assume it’s only unhappy drivers. It’s not for everyone. You get out of it what you put into it. They are a good strong company that has structure and that’s what most people have problems with. Do it their way or move on! It’s that simple. Better than 95% of companies out there in my opinion.

    Also I think a basic company work sequence will retain lifers or not.

    Companies I hate are those that demand white glove early delivery at sunrise on the dot and then Sit around all #### day until 5 minutes before 5 dumping you with impossible load this now 250 miles away to run 700 miles in the night to be somewhere next morning at sunrise. I quit those in a heart bet. Its too much of a economic losses in total miles run each week for as long they insist on paying low miles rate per mile for the weekly total.

    I become a lifer at a company that knows what they need and have already, and I know whats going on by sunrise that day. No rush. Just moving along. Particularly on long hauls of up to 3000 miles is what I do best.

    This thread a little old... can anyone say if the physical aptitude test still requires one to pick up a 80lb box? If so, does driver touch the load? Thank you.

    I’m not sure if what the physical tests are. As far as touching the load, it all depends on what division you hire into. Truckload, some dedicated accounts and shuttle drivers don’t touch freight. City ltl, and most dedicated accounts are driver unload or assist.

    It did not require picking up a box when I was there 2 years ago, just had to climb in the back of a trailer with both doors open.
