Nothing , from the CDL to the HOS change has done anything to help the Industry. Except to get rid of the more experienced drivers.

I've never been late for a crane meet, but it seems like every crane meet, the crane is late or getting there the same time as me. Had one meet to unload slabs of granite, 7:30 am meet, crane had to setup first so I could stage properly in the tight lot. I was there first, crane arrived 3 hours later, they had to stop traffic on Hwy 82 so I could back out, then back up 100 yards, so the crane could pull in and setup, then I could pull in, lots of wealthy, angry people, CSP was not amused either. Crane lifted the can off, customer rushed the unload, crane reloaded me, and I got out of there.

Everything starts out that way.. They don't tell you their plans right out the gate. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

Many quit over the CDL. They did exactly the opposite of what their data and research proved. Wasted a few million. The safety groups were happy with the new HOS.

Of course they were.. Forcing us to work in a more "predictable" way so they were able to obtain our metadata better. The whole "internet of things" where we will all be connected.

The safety groups have never been happy with the HOS changes. They always wanted the HOS to be even MORE restrictive. Every change we have had in the HOS since I started driving in the 90's, has been met with a lawsuit by the safety Nazis trying to stop the changes. Including the suit still pending on the last changes.

If they actually cared about fatigue, then wouldn't have implemented such long break periods to allow drivers to reset their clock. If they don't want drivers driving for any longer than 11 hours a day for whatever arbitrary reason, then so be it. But get rid of the 14 and the 70.
