Yeah, log homes are a Pita!
I don't eat out much. We have a large family, so we mostly just eat at the house....plus the food is usually better.

We are looking at building a log home but not in the traditional form. Tongue and groove design.
It's either that or post and frame cedar sided. I need to get them priced out.
The ones they have done around here in that last few years are sealed pretty good.....not sure what they are using on them.singlescrewshaker, Brettj3876, Lysdexis and 7 others Thank this. -
Mine is a milled log. There is just alot that goes into them. If they are in the sun, they dry out and crack alot. Those cracks have to be filled.....every one of them. If not, water gets in and rots the log. The uv also deteriorates the stain alot faster. You have to worry about bugs. If it is in the shade, then they rot faster because the water sticks around longer. If you build a porch on them, they rot faster. Because the water bounces off the porch and keeps the logs wetter more often. Also, snow builds up and rots them. Log homes where originally designed as temporary housing for poor people. We, in the modern age for whatever reason romanticize them. Plus the stain usually lasts about 7ish years. Then you strip, sand, (soda blast), rechink, restain and crack fill. You want my 2cents. .....stay far.....far away. If I was going to build, I would do a steel frame bardominium. Steel frame, metal roof and metal siding. Zero maintenance!Last edited: Jul 18, 2021
Lostkeys, dwells40, singlescrewshaker and 10 others Thank this. -
As much as I'd like to build my cabin in the woods, my wife likes the idea of a big metal shop with a single-wide parked in a corner on astro turf..

I'm just gonna convert a 40' seacan into a mobile home. Why? Because redneck.
Plus if I buy one of the reefer ones, built in A/C!Flint1, Lostkeys, singlescrewshaker and 11 others Thank this. -
Not really
A midsized sleeper tractor with an older 10 wide tandem lowbed should be under 38k
A 200 sized excavator should be about 48 to 50k working weight. An extra bucket may be 500 to 650 pounds.
Canadian legal weight is 39500kg or 87k so if one or the other is just a bit lower than my high side estimate he can be legal easily.Flint1, singlescrewshaker, cke and 7 others Thank this. -

Watching the Blues Brothers, prolly going to watch Caddy Shack next. Because they never get old. Even though I've seen them a million times.
Lostkeys, singlescrewshaker, cke and 5 others Thank this.
