Bendix and the ata are lobbying to have this become law. If you love the system keep working for ata carriers and buying trucks with it. Me, I’d rather not work for ATA scum.

Yeah they’ve been lobbying since they came up with a new and improved air brake system for locomotives.

I never tried it but looks like there is a lot of false alarms from it. That's what the problem is. The very idea of forewarnings that you go off the road or approaching the ahead vehicles too fast may not be that bad thou.

If you're in traffic it's pretty much a constant alarm, at a pitch and volume that i believe was designed to drive a person insane.

The threshold for it to not sound the alarm is 1.5 seconds of following distance. Sounds reasonable right?

The fact is the vast majority of drivers, of all types of vehicles, are only leaving about ½ second of distance after completing a pass before merging back. If you slow down to increase the distance, the driver behind you will pass, and do the same thing.

So the only way to keep from triggering the CMS alarm, is to run much slower than the surrounding traffic, which creates a dangerous situation. So you end up dealing with a constant alarm, that raises stress levels and creates a distraction at the time a driver needs to be completely focused on traffic.

Its a system that in theory sounds good, but in practicality is awful.

    False alarms is right.

If I put on the right turn signal it will check the right lane and alert me if
there is traffic beside me......sounds great......except what happens when I am on
a city street and there is a street sign beside me?????you guessed.....the stupid thing
    beeps.

Going down the off-ramp......going past the 25mph exit sign it beeps. The sign means to slow to
25 mph by the turn in the ramp......half-way down the ramp before the turn.....still going over the
25mph.....100% safe, 100% in control......POS is beeping at me.

Construction zone where the guys have put down temporary lines that are crooked and not
    perfect????? POS goes nuts.
Agreed. Why can't they make a quieter less obnoxious beeper? This thing will literally wake
the dead. Can only imagine if I was driving team and trying to sleep.

I love when I don't have to get into a long winded reply to explain the countless ways that it drives me bat sh** crazy, because thank God I'm not alone in that boat! Let me just say this, and if you think I'm full of it, I'll take that, since this otherwise this probably sounds a bit crazy to the rest of you. I've had dreams of tracking down the guy at Bendix that created the collision mitigation system, where I locked him up in his office, strapped him into a chair after everybody else went home for the night. Left the lights on so he couldn't easily fall asleep, and left a 11 hour audio recording playing from one of my days of driving, consisting of all or mostly California, of his piece of sh**, beeping (following distance), the vibrations (lane depart), and I somehow had his office chair mechanically rigged to lock up and throw him forward (automatic brake locking up). 11 hours, all night long until almost the start of his next work day, so that SOB too, could finally experience and enjoy the fruits of his labor. One of the better dreams I've recently had. Except it did unfortunately end, unrealistically, with him recalling all his piece of trash products. But, that's why they call it a dream.

The biggest problem for me is the way the messages flash across the digital screen.
Every time it beeps it also flashes a message across that screen in the center of the dash.
Covers up the important gauges for maybe 10seconds or so.

So first I have to take my attention off the road to read the safety message..............if I
do need to glance at the speedometer.....can't because it is covered by the safety message.
On the Interstate maybe not an issue......in heavy traffic, city driving, going around a cloverleaf
exit ramp, I want to see my speedometer....not some BS safety message.

If I am a safe driver this computerized safety crxx does NOT make me a safer driver.
If I am not a safe driver this computerized safety crxx does little to make me a safe driver.
So why spend the money for a system that is just a distraction?

Trucking with Selina guy bought an ex JB Hunt Cascadia. His system went down it was around $5k to get working. Dealer would not delete it.

It's not illegal. But you do have to sign a form that says you are aware the system is disabled.
