No...literally the only house around without wood heat. It is my next project though. Gonna put in a wood stove. Right now we have propane forced air. Our friends own the pellet plant in town. So we might put in a pellet stove. never had a pellet stove always had wood heat before this house. easy to find wood to burn.

I get scared when it gets quiet. Our older kids have recruited the smaller kids as look outs. I know things are about to go sideways when one of the younger kids is sitting in the hall by themselves being quiet......lol.

Keep a few, maybe 5, 2lbs bags of baking soda dry and with a extention ladder. You have a fire place or chimneys fire. Dump it down the top. Practice and make sure your ladder reaches and have a plan to do this efficiently. They made devices for this. But epa stopped production. My guess they thought a fully involved structure fire put off less toxins. Plus the ladder is a must for any 2 story. Even if it doesn't stop the fire, it will buy time. Even Ohio we are 90% Volunteers. 5 minute eta is good. Most modern construction with engineered wood structure will burn to a collapse in 3 minutes. Older homes with hard lumber are safer. They burn slower. Just different.

Its a PITA to vacuum up, but no harm to chimney. When crew puts water down a chimney, its life is over. Some young gun hoe crew will put the wet stuff on the hot stuff when they should not. Normally this is a great plan.

I can tell you being in a basement inferno and some clown from another dept doesn't follow orders will ruin the lining, and the crew in the basement gets steamed like you can not imagine. We lived, he ran for his life that particular night.

Thanks for the tip. When I said the fire dept won't come here, I really meant it. If you live outside of the mileage circle, they won't service your house. I imagine my home being log.....will prolly go up pretty quick.

To be clear incase @1951 ford swings by. Saying older homes are safer, I'm only saying in burn time. Wiring sucked, most before the early 60's were Ballon construction with no fire stops between floors. You could have a basement fire, it can jump floors. Now you have a basement and attic fire at the same time. But they still burnt slower. Hard lumber. These laminated beams and fabricated I beam joist are strong except built with press board and glue.

I won't even start on the light weight steel construction. Anything bigger than a bic lighter can collapse a Walmart. You don't fight those, you get out.

That's bull stuff. No one is not covered here. That's challenging sometimes. But they will come.

Solid log, slow burn compaired to engineered log home. What we have in are homes play a big part. 60 years ago houses had 80% less plastic than now in contents.

What about a pond to. Most insurance companies around here give you a discount on fire insurance if you have a ready water supply. Lots of rual properties have even put in dry hydrants to ponds. That way it can supply for neighbors too.

Sorry, don't mean to rant. I'm not active anymore but you tell the stuff I think of at night.
