It matters not to me where this thread leads, I say the more the merrier. Perhaps lurkers from other states can learn something from us Idahoans. After all, we're not as backwards as some other states (whom shall remain nameless) for instance here in Idaho we shear sheep. LOL!!

Maybe other states would be ok but do we have to let the 2C plates come on board :biggrin_25523:LOL
All are welcome on board and I hope we all can learn a thing or three.

I don't know but I heard a rumor that some 2c plate people don't drink Kool-aid. It seems that they can't fit 2 quarts of water and 1 cup of sugar in those little packages. LOL

I have heard about the kool Aid thing myself LOL. What branch of the service did you do your time with? I was a Jar head back in the day.
I went on to become a printer at the Statesman and got laidoff last April. I had gone out on the road with a buddy of mine back in 1983 to see if I wanted to do it for a living and decided to raise a family instead. Well my youngest in now in Collage and I need to find a new career for myself. So here I am at trucking school and looking forward to learnig the ropes of what I hope will be my last Career.

I served with the army national guard of Idaho. A friend of mine worked as a janitor at the Statesman up until they had a fire some years ago. My one and only is finishing his last semester in college and will ship out to Navy boot in June. I make so very little with the USPS part-time with minimal opportunity to go full-time that I chose to go with trucking. My father still drives truck so I talked to him about it. He said I should stay local. But in my blog readings I read that typically student drivers don't become local initially. So if Sage can put me in business locally I'm all for it but I don't think that it's very likely.

Yea, I work there when we had the fire. I put 14 straight 12 hour days to get the press up and running. It sure was a mess. I would like to get a local gig but I have talked to a number of companies and it looks like you need a min. of 1 year OTR at this time before they will talk to you.
I do have a friend at Transystems that said they would consider hiring a newbe but at this time it is up in the air.

Then there's those jobs out there where you just can't apply one time. You go in an fill out an application then you show up over and over until they hire you. It may take a few days or a few weeks but some companies eventually wear down and give you a job just to get you out of their face.

Well school has been great so far, I have to say they have put us though our paces the las two weeks of driving time. I have been on snow, ice and mountian roads and I must say when you first get on them you kinda pucker up. We have spent quite a bit of time driving in the mountians and I'm glad for it, we have been to Lowman and New Medows and Fairfield. All on 2 lane roads and we made the loop down to Twin Falls on I-84 and came back by the river.
So as you can see we get plenty of miles even with 3 students in the truck. The last week before the Christmas break we did some city driving and that was diffent. I made some truns in downtown Boise that I thought there was no way I was going to make it but with a little time and blocking a few cars it got to be less nerve wracking. When we get back to school we will spend half the day city driving and half a day going over our backing and pre trips.
I would say all in all I happy with the way things are going and the only thing I would change is when we started school we spent 3 weeks in the class room. I think some of the guys needed it but the last week seemed to drag on forever. I will start back on the 4th of Jan. and will send you an update then. We will test out on the 14th so wish me luck.
