I'm ok with a educated guess. Part of the industry and maybe a common situation.
But no matter how many computers you hang on the engine. Never forget its a internal combustion engine. Start simple and cheap. Goes a long way.
KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Goes along way.

I put new parts on the truck instead of paying a shop for diagnostic testing.
In the long run I figure the truck would need these parts anyway.
As in this fuel problem thread. I would start at fuel tank and replace fuel lines from tank and all parts to the fuel pump. Consumable parts. Check the parts that could be repaired. Change all o-rings and seals.
My point: Doing it this way my money is going into the truck (investment) not to a mechanic shop for tests ( expense)
After I operate the truck a few years and I've done these system upgrades. I will have a mechanic diagnose problems if I can't troubleshoot and repair myself.Fld1201994 and jamespmack Thank this. -
With something like this my own opinion is that you should get to what the actual problem is. Then once you figure let's say that the filter housing is cracked and you replace that then maybe you want to say well now I'm working on the fuel system so I'll replace all my fuel lines at the same time so I don't have to worry about anything now.
One thing I've learned a long time ago that works for me anyway is when you work on one thing try to finish everything that's associated with it because if you don't then sometimes it's like you keep going back to the same thing over and over again.
I like the cross one thing off of my list and then just move on to the next and keep going.Fld1201994 and xsetra Thank this. -
I would also check the check valve at the ECM cooler plate, sometimes the dirt and debris can clog this line and cause weird issues like stated above.
