Is it even worth it anymore to get into fuel hauling in So Cal? Heard theres a fuel shortage or some bs....who knows. 17 years bus driver with class A, gonna get endorsements soon. Should i just bite the bullet and see who will take me on or just be really picky? Companies are Tesoro, Cox, Pacific tank lines, Cool transports, Superior etc. Im a very hard worker and dont mind working weekends, nights etc.

While I was skeptical about an alleged driver shortage for suicide jockies here, I think it's actually true. One company that does a lot of gas hauling, said, 20% of their trucks are parked because of no drivers. One member here claims they make $51/hour. Again, if you can, talk to the other drivers. In all my years, I never heard of such a thing. Fuel hauling was always #1 on a drivers job list and to hear of a shortage, tells me we're in worse shape than I thought. Since you don't have to deal with weather, I'd think a fuel hauler would be a gravy job, AND, no unruly passengers to deal with. Good luck.

It's worth it. The only shortage is of good drivers who meet the tanker company specs.

Well, im sure i won't have a problem at all. Especially the GOOD DRIVER qualification since my record is clean with no preventables. Drive cams dont bother me since the city buses have 8 on board. Work me, ill prove myself.

Preferred one-year tanker experience, but will train the right candidate.

Fuel haulers spend more time outside the truck than inside of it. They definitely have to deal with the weather.

And while you don't have to worry unruly passengers, you have to worry about idiot four wheelers whose IQ drops in half as soon as they turn into the gas station parking lot.

I was just talking to a gas hauling company terminal manager who said when the pandemic hit and no one was buying gas there was no work…..

So a lot of guys left because there wasn’t enough work. Now they don’t want to come back…..

Gas hauling does suck you are in the weather all day long
