Another thing to think about is possibly one of those trucks having a fuel line rupture or leak. Rare, but does happen..

Diesel isn't very flammable. If you throw a lit match into a bowl of diesel fuel it will put the match out. Diesel works on heat and pressure.

It's about as flammable as cooking oil.

Try telling that to the drivers of those two trucks that burned. Also, try telling that to the NUMEROUS fire departments and hazmat teams that responded to the blaze…
This wasn’t a bowl, this was HUNDREDS OF GALLONS of diesel fuel that went up in flames and smoke(and almost took the fuel line with it)!
Let’s also not forget with most trucks using DEF nowadays the chemical reaction when it’s injected into the exhaust stream generates A LOT of heat!

This fire is more problematic. Even though it used to be a Wilco Hess IIRC Monteagle was one of the more “better laid out” truck stops from a refueling point of view. Certainly better than the cluster **** in Murfreesboro or anywhere close to Nashville.

    Team818 and bryan21384 Thank this.

I agree totally. It can be a cluster but not become of the layout. Once it gets busy over there all the patronizing truckers get stuck on stupid when it comes to maneuvering in and out

    mjd4277 and Team818 Thank this.

The DEF doesn't really generate the heat. Its the reaction of diesel and the DOC catalyst that makes the heat for a regen.

Another good reason to shut the truck off while fueling. At least it won't be in a regen while parked there.
