I’m about to get my cdl. I already have my authority. I’m planning on using the DAT board to book loads. How long does it typically take for trucks to be loaded and unloaded?

Depends on a few key factors. Type of freight for one. Sometimes 5 mins. other 3 days. Typical 1 to 2 hrs.

My longest was 24 hours inside a refinery that was about 5 miles away from the yard.
Merck Sharpe & Dome in Rahway, NJ; average lab time was 4 hours in a No Smoking plant inside a break room with a tv.
Loaded Transformer oil at Exxon, 6 hours waiting on the lab.
Got to customer [who was waiting all day] who took a sample, poured it into a beaker and inserted a frame with two electrodes and applied voltage watching the amount rise until finally an arch flashed between the electrodes.
The voltage was higher than his standard so we were good. Took all of 5 minutes.Jarhed1964 and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
My longest loading was 6 hours i think ...

How did you get your Authority before you even got a CDL?
How did they rate your insurance if you don't have a commercial driver's license?
And the burning question is how much are you paying for that insurance?Jarhed1964, wis bang, ProfessionalNoticer and 2 others Thank this. -
Not gonna lie though, I got my truck, authority, and insurance before I was legal. Friend of mine was the part time driver.Jarhed1964, Brettj3876, Dino soar and 1 other person Thank this. -
Around 2 hours for planning. Usually, the detention pay starts after 2 hours.
