I am planning to clean my engine and add some dye to detect all possible leaks . Is it a good idea ?! Any dye will work for this ( i mean engine oil dye , i asked my mechanic whos servicing my regular cars to order some for me ...not sure if there is a difference between diesel and gasoline engine dye ).

Power wash it, and run it a bit. Throw some talcum powder at it.

If you already know where the leak is, what good would dye do you?

27 years experience here as mechanic, and I've never needed to dye oil to find a leak. Hell, I've never even heard it suggested.

No difference between diesel and gas oil dye. If a DD15 common oil leak is around rocker box

Mmm-hmm, I can hear it now down the road,,,"yep, here's your bearing failure cause, engine dye,,,we see this a lot",,, for all we know, the "dye guys" sell reman motors. I've heard of black light dye in the coolant, as those leaks are harder to spot, but an oil leak should be pretty obvious. Sounds like a head gasket, and poor pavrom troubles continue, "it's a always a somethin",,
