Recently I started looking at hourly work since I hate how much unpaid work OTR is.

Looked on indeed through atleast 20 pages of ads and I constantly see $21-$23 per hour. I have seen some ads for $19 per hour. Why anyone would drive an 18 wheeler for anything less than $25 an hour (local) is beyond me. I personally won't do local for less than $26 an hour. Cardinal health advertised a competitive hourly rate of $20.53 per hour. Seems pretty "competitive" to me.

Why are local hourly rates so awful?

Because most drivers want or need to be home.
They don't have to pay more.
You being home everyday is the extra 5 bucks an hour.

And just to really piss you off,
    Those are city rates.
It's 13 to 16 bucks an an hour in the country.
I live in the woods, it's 13 bucks an hour all day long.
    Dump trucks,cement trucks,log trucks.
Your literally better of at Walmart.

Well you are home everynight and that comes with a price.... oh does it ever come with a price. Some of the customers are hard to please as well. Not an impossible job, but boy was I suprised how it really works. Working off the clock. Anyways you are correct. It should pay more, but the employers know you want to be home with your family, so a lot, not all, but a lot take advantage.

    Martin Brower $28.86/HR
Sysco pays $28.15/HR but lots of physical labor.
Tanker pays about $27 an hour. (West can)
Praxair is paying $27.23an hour too.

Just swinging doors doesn't pay worth anything in the GTA. I guess I need to get into something specialized

Just looking at some of the local trucking jobs around Edmonton most are in the mid-$20s. Logging and winch truck I see ads up ranging from $35 to $40/hr.

Folks want easy. Making money means doing something most folks aren't willing to.

unfortunately the GTA is over saturated with truck drivers and new canadians willing to work for peanuts and the rates are crap .dry van and reefer is only $20-25 a hr i know rosedale pays up to $25.50 a hr night shift .purolator pays up to $32 a hour if u get through probation and can deal with all the bs .a lot of the fuel companies want fuel hauling experience and i applied to west cam they don’t have very good reviews . on site fuel delivery although it’s a dz truck pays up to $30 but be warm crazy long hrs with on site fuel . i’m only getting $22 a hr ot of $33 after 9hrs with the mega i work for . supposed to get a raise in aug i like the company but the pay does suck and no way in hell im going otr so u just have to suck it up

I run out of Niagara Falls NY up to GTA everyday. How do regular people afford to live there? We get $24 an hour with OT after 40. Usually get between 50-55 hours a week.

I've honestly never understood the obsession with places like Toronto and Vancouver.
