It’s kind of funny, with OT and no living on the road expenses/layovers. The shunt guys at the yards I Pike too, make more than anyone doing OTR (and they make the same every week!)
@Canadianhauler21 LCV dude, it’s the future! Gordon/Sysco are doing it now, Every LTL company, Im even starting to see Flatbeds and Step-deck Turnpikes! Robert, CAT/SLH, Rosedale Group seem decent for LCV.
I really really should have done this at 2 years of driving vs 5, but I guess it just took that long for everything to line up (and the Regina Bypass to be finished).
I can now understand why, everyone wanted Pikes at Bison. Literally to the point of bribes/fighting people. Once on pike fleet, typically a retirement job.
GTA local hourly rates are garbage

iam in the same situation as you been driving since 08 clean abstract and like the mega carrier i work for. No one bugs me but feel i should be making more when i see on youtube or forums of newer drivers making $80k plus i get depressed . i look at indeed and over the road every now and then but it’s always the same companies hiring and i like the normal life style of local work . Sunday -thursday off friday night and saturday back sunday night at 4:30/5pm .my self can’t see me ever going back otr. in 2023 i’ll be debt free and plan to buy a small paid for house up north so if trucking takes a sh$t i can work at tim hortons or mcdonald’s and pay the billsTheStopSignGuy, reeferwrencher, Canadianhauler21 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Gordon, Sysco and Core Mark, you will move up fast if you're not and idiot (they go through A LOT of idiots). The Circle K by the house is serviced by Core Mark, and I managed to chat with one of the drivers while he was loading up his ramps. He said it only took 3 months, for him to get a daytime run of his choosing, so he picked Circle K, and services about 6 stores a day, daytime. I know some guys who have been in food service for 20 years, and they wouldn't do anything else (they also do 120K+/yr and are ripped lol).
Another option to look into, is Frito'Lay or Old Dutch. We do the line haul for Old Dutch on the pikes, and their guys in the last mile trucks, all seem super happy and enjoy what they do IMHO.
Dump is an Ok job also, just gotta deal with dust, waiting and weather.
Lots of options dude, just need to pick something and stick with it. You can't get to the good stuff, if you keep jumping around. (unless its OTR, then it always sucks). -
other thing about dump trucking is it’s mostly seasonal . i know asphalt hauling starts late april to mid may and usually ends just before xmas . after the season ends you can plow snow or go unemployment but you will not get much on ei just enough to survive so you have to be good with your money
my dad and my self got the bright idea to buy two trucks from his friend worst thing we could have done in gta companies only pay $78-80 a hr for o/o and with fuel on the raise and slow days my dads making company wagesdancecanyon Thanks this. -
