    Just Dutch things.
A truck driver targeting cops on motorcycles is a story that shocked the Netherlands. The man is currently in custody and is awaiting the third trial in his career. It will be about the fatal hit of a 47-year-old policeman who tried to stop him for inspection in Rotterdam. And in the meantime, a lot of new information has emerged that makes the whole story more complete. According to the local daily "AD.nl", the 46-year-old driver's name is Edwin M. and comes from the small town of Melissant near Rotterdam. There, a transport company was established by his grandfather, then it was run by his father, and recently it was taken over by his older brother. Edwin grew up among trucks since he was a child, generating a great passion and very quickly gaining publicity in the industry. At the age of 15, he bought a vintage DAF with an engine in front of the cab, and spent the next two years renovating it himself. The company from Melissant has specialized in the transport of sea containers, while remaining a small, family-owned company. As soon as Edwin M. obtained his driving license, he immediately got a job there as a driver, collecting the containers from Rotterdam and delivering them around the area. Instead, to gain an advantage over the competition, he modified his truck in a controversial way. Here I will explain that in the Netherlands the highest GVM of a standard truck is 50 tons, and containers are often transported by seven-axle sets. These are three-axle tractors with four-axle detachable semi-trailers or four-axle chassis with three-axle trailers. By the way, these are the vehicles that are brought to Poland as "centipedes". Meanwhile, Edwin M. decided to combine the four-axle DAF 95XF with a four-axle turntable trailer and twins. In total, it had eight axles, which is extremely rare now. In practice, it allowed to reach even 70 tons of total weight without exceeding the axle loads. Interestingly, the eighth axle had to be added at the factory, and it was not possible to arrange it for traffic until the TÜV organization, after the vehicle was transported to Germany. The eight-axle configuration apparently proved to be successful in practice, after all, Edwin M. also stuck to it when replacing trucks with newer ones. After the 95XF, he attached a four-axle trailer to the DAF XF105, and then to the XF Euro 6. There was, however, a problem that he could not eliminate - due to the very large number of wheels, the eight-axle truck was recognizable from a distance, acting on the inspection services like magnet. And here it must be admitted that Edwin M. had absolutely no predisposition to drive such a vehicle. According to people from the driver's environment, the man had a problem with dealing with anger, very quickly falling into extreme emotions. He was also considered a loner with whom it was difficult to make contact. In addition, Edwin M. was to attach great importance to the family business, founded by his grandfather in 1947. So it is easy to guess what reactions aroused in him endless checks and penalties for exceeding the total weight. And so we come to the first tragedy that happened in 2015. A policeman on a motorcycle then pulled an eight-axle set from the A15 motorway, wanting to issue a penalty for overloading. However, a police motorcycle was hit by a truck, and the officer emerged with an amputated arm, a collapsed lung, and six broken ribs. How did the driver manage to retain his license after such a serious accident? In court, he managed to prove that he had hit a police motorcycle because it was in the so-called "blind spot". It was also found that Edwin M. does not show any mental problems that would disqualify him from driving. The court ruled that it was an unfortunate accident, fined 236 hours of community service and allowed the driver to retain his rights. The eight-axle DAF has returned to the roads, and police surveillance of the truck has only tightened. The checks on the truck were constantly repeated, and there were more and more tensions between the driver and the policemen. Edwin M.'s parents even claimed that they would receive anonymous phone calls from police officers with death threats. They also complained about officers watching their company and requesting psychological tests for their son. The policemen themselves admit that they wanted to keep an eye on the company to know which trucks it is currently using and which vehicles may exceed the permissible total weight. However, they completely deny telephone threats.

In 2019, Edwin M. had another accident in which he ran over an elderly woman riding a bicycle across the road. Here, too, an unfortunate accident was indicated, psychological observation did not reveal any irregularities, and contacts with the police deteriorated even more. Meanwhile, an official recommendation was also issued that police officers on a motorcycle never stop a red, eight-axle DAF from a Melissant-based company. Only officers in cars were supposed to do this for safety reasons. Many uniformed motorcyclists, however, did not hide their indignation at this recommendation, seeing it simply as a license to break the rules. And that's why a 47-year-old policeman named Arno de Korte, riding a marked motorcycle, issued a signal to stop on July 7 ... The officer tried to pull the infamous DAF off the road and was instead hit by a truck, sustaining fatal injuries. His body was dragged several hundred meters, then fell off the truck and remained on the road. The truck driver drove on, first going to unload and then returning home as if nothing had happened.

    Unreal…..

so he can axle the load but is over gross weight allowed…….not a hard concept to understand…..

They would be better off with less axles and sneaking around overweight….

what would be normal way to haul that..? Just 1 container at a time with 2 axle tractor and 3 axle chassis trailer?

    Heard for this case.

Here no one wants to load two 20ft.
This is their own deal between companies to not do that.
