It is not illegal. However, in states that your carry permit doesn’t share reciprocity with…interstate transportation laws will be in effect. In that case you will need to store the firearm and ammunition separately and in locked boxes away from each other and out of reach.
Something else to keep in mind, you may be required to deliver to places like military installations, where it’s illegal to have firearms on the property. In that case what some drivers do is have a waterproof safe like a Lifevault. What you should do is pull over along the way and bury it near a mile marker post or something nearby and make note of the location. Dig it back up after leaving the customer.
