I hadn't heard that the rider policy would be suspended in one of these things. Your rider would be sitting in the bunk... no passenger seat.

Word is that they are all eventually going to have APUs... they are supposedly testing small APUs to see which one they want to go with. Who really knows though?

Just curious, where'd you hear this from? That would certainly be good news, but the rumor mill is going crazy right now. You're right, who really knows?

I'm preparing as much as I can for the lightweight truck. Turn in my current truck in March. I think I can do it. I'd like to get curtains for the windshield and side windows, that way I can leave the sleeper curtain open and feel like there's more room, then I'll just utilize the passenger seat area as much as I can. I've gone through all the crap on my truck, and really, I can shed a lot of it.

Not saying I'm happy about it, but I can make it work.

Edited to add: Many companies are telling their solo drivers to "lease, team, train, or leave." So at least Prime is replacing the "leave" option with a smaller truck.

I have heard this from several separate sources over on the Prime Drivers Forum. Of course, you never know what is really true or rumor until it happens... so, we'll see.

I hope I don't get put into one of these little trucks after I complete training, but it sounds like I probably will. If I do, I will make the best of it-- just like you were saying Mike. That's all you can (and should) do right?

    Hey Jim.

I start this Monday (Dec 28 )... orientation usually starts on Tuesdays, but we are starting Monday because of the holiday.

    By the way, Merry Christmas!

At least while the economy is the way it is, absolutely. I do fear for Prime when this economy recovers. Turnover, not just at Prime, but industry wide will go through the roof (the turnover in trucking is usually around 100% and is only at 60% right now). Many people who were laid off from their jobs before trucking will begin to move back to those jobs as they open back up. Aside from that, when trucking companies start hiring like they used to, who will want to be stuck in a little tiny lightweight truck when company "X" is willing to give them a $1,000 sign on bonus plus a truck with a full size sleeper berth? I think we are still a long ways away from a full economic recovery, but it'll happen eventually, and I worry for the turnover at Prime if they keep pushing these small trucks.

It's a shame, really. Because so far I'm extremely happy with Prime and I don't want to leave at all. I'll just be playing it by ear and see what happens over the next year or so.

    DirtySideDown and andrew5184 Thank this.

I was looking at one of the lightweight trucks (FL Columbia) when I was at the yard last week, and it looked like they have ordered them with the wrap around curtains for the front windows.
