I realize this is highly subjective and I'm going to get a thousand of angry replies from the owners that have been screwed over . Generally speaking considering it's pretty hard to find solid information on either manufacturer's website who has a better
warranty as far as covering parts, towing, etc

    TIA

I don't know, but this I can tell you.

Peterbilt does not have the network that Freightliner has. There are freightliner dealers everywhere, and Freightliner service everywhere.

Parts are much less expensive and easily accessible for Freightliner.

And finally, do you really want to be one of those Peterbilt guys, that spends way too much money on a truck just so that you can wear the belt buckle? Do you really want to be one of those guys it pays an exorbitant amount of money just so that you can throw a name around?

Makes no sense to me but then again I have no interest in belt buckles... or being the guy at the lunch counter that tells everyone he has the big Pete he's got the Big Pete... And the belt buckle of course...

Whenever I see those guys I truly get a good laugh out of it;)

I probably wouldn’t buy extended warranty for the chassis itself. However, I would buy extended warranty for the Cummins motor. You can get 5 yr 500k with towing for $5500.

Chassis warranty is sortof a waste of time from my experience. The small amount of things that might go wrong, you’ll want to get fixed on your own time anyway. Dealers take 1 week or more to do just about anything. It costs less to just pay yourself a local shop and get back to trucking.

Well just ask for the warranty agreement and compare them.

both companies have breakdown charts of what is covered and for how long for each model, they can print them off at the dealer for you.

towing is usually capped at or around $600 for both companies but that is subject to the dealer.

My big thing with the weenys is they always have a really cheap feel to them. Only trucks i have driven that leak right out the factory gate. Build quality also seems a lot more hit and miss. You also see a lot less old weenys around then peters which to me indicates a lower quality truck.

Honestly though its subjective in a lot of ways. I see people swear by them (freightliners) and at them (pete owners). For me i just like my petes better because they are way more comfortable for someone over 6 foot tall then other options. Petes always seem to have a lot more leg room then other brands. Plus being so popular there are a LOT more guides and people to ask for help. Though things like derptube and fackbook have evened the playing field in recent years.

That said my 579 and the saga ive had with it should show and prove that petes arent the bullet proof super brand some make them out to be.

I’ve had Freightliner’s for over 20 years. No matter where I’ve been for warranty repairs, they always took care of it and never tried to stiff me for the bill.

To this day, when I get a western star in, the first thing that is done is the windshield is removed and reseated with a sealant. Sometimes the rubber gasket is replaced.

    thank you safelite.

I got tired of hearing from drivers that the trucks leaked.

I heard from another owner, he bought three WS and he had one hell of a time getting the dealer to do the work so I showed him what we were doing and he now does the same thing.

Never used a westy for any length of time so i have no opinions on them tbh. My dislike of freightshakers comes from roof leaks where they seal the cab to the sleeper. Every weeny i have ever driven leaks there no matter how new or old.

I agree, I had welded tops leak there too, one reason why I was loved by the truck breakers a few miles away, I scrapped a bunch of this rusted out junk.
