Looks like the FCC did it yesterday: permit CB Radio Service transmitters to transmit FM voice emissions along with AM.

It's to go into effect 30 days after publishing in the Federal Register.

Now what are we gonna do when we hear funny sounds coming out of our AM radios on 19?

    Commerce has won again.

I wanted to see it happen back in 1968. It should have been fm all along.

    That's a good question.

The new rule approves 2KHZ width for the new CB FM radios, and I've seen many current exports producing 5KHZ.

Those 5KHZers may be a problem trying to communicate with the new 2KHZers, but they would be able to communicate amongst themselves.

It might be quite a battlefield, 2KHZ, 5KHZ, and AM all on, say, channel 19.

    Tower of Babel?

The new regs make it a 8khz bandwidth, that means a cap of 4kcs for the audio.
