Very nice of you to take this time, thanks. Right off do you know how much experience a driver needs to join IRT? Like in the last 3 years. Is that a major. If they want like 2 out of 3. Then I will have to restart elsewhere until such time as I qualify. Its Friday now after 5PM so I don't know if anyone will answer in recruiting, and Thank you.

The only reason Clovis came up was it mention a lot on the website, and I was thinking it was a major hub or something.

I’m not 100% sure on the years of experience required. I believe if it was two years when I hired on, but I heard it changed it to one year since then. I assume the insurance company dictates all of that for most carriers, and as you know, who they use for coverage can change at anytime. I hate to throw an inaccurate guess out there on a public forum, then have it be different next week.

I would assume you’ll need at least one year, but a recruiter will know the current requirements better than me or another driver who hired on years ago. I don’t know if it has to be within the previous three years anymore or not.

Clovis is a fairly large terminal. I think if you live in their region and hire on as a regional driver you will be in and out of there regularly. If you live elsewhere, you most likely won’t see it very much. I have stopped there to get a tire changed or if I’m due for a PM service and feel like it will be quicker to have their shop do it, I make it a point to go through Clovis.

Most of the drivers who operate out of that terminal are regional and live nearby. They do dairy loads for the most part, loading at farms, hauling to milk plants, etc. As an OTR driver, you won’t end up there much and will just pass through New Mexico on your way across the country. Personally, I’ve never cared for it. It’s not necessarily the office or people who are there, I just don’t care for farms or that area of the country.

Understood, thank you very much. I like the way you laid out and described your time at IRT. I like the bigger bunks. I like the Pete model you guys drive to. I think I would like tanker driving, I enjoyed that very much in my training. I can see around them better, they pull like a dream, and the laugh at the wind. Stopping of course can be a doozy. Well driver, I really appreciate you. You are a benefit to Trucking. God bless. I will chat with a recruiter monday. Hey, if they give driver referall bonuses, I will write you about that okay?

No problem. I agree with you on the “see around them better.” The shorter length of a tank makes them easier to get into tight parking spots too.

    Good luck to you.

We rent part of our yard to trucks looking for a place to park. We rent mostly to a couple of megas but there's a IR driver that's been parking here about five or six years now while he takes home time. He likes IR. He runs mostly I-5 and 97 up to Washington and down to Socal. Once in awhile he'll have to run east a little but he's usually parked for the weekend or at least most of a weekend.
He gets a new truck every couple of years and he says the heaviest thing he has to pick up is his lunch box. He says that in all the time he's been with IR he's had to handle hoses maybe half a dozen times and that was just hooking and unhooking plant hoses. He never hauls anything but food grade liquids and slurries.

Okay, I have an update. They don't hire in ALL of the 48, which was shocking. You need to enter your zip code in the zip code box on the website page. After you click on careers, then click drivers, then, enter your zip code. I live in one they have No Job Openings. They work all of the 48, but my zip code says, "We're sorry, no jobs" something like that.. "Well, thats the way it goes, moving west".... The Quest Continues.

I’m confused by what you mean when you say “they don’t hire in the 48.” Was that a typo? I think all of our 500+ drivers live in the United States, including myself.

I went to the website. Click careers, clicked drivers, then entered my Zip Code... it said "no open positions in your area"? Let me try it again. BRB. Okay?
